SECTION A
I. Very Short Answer questions 10 x 2 = 20 M
i) Answer All Questions
ii) Each Question carries TWO marks

1. What is the contribution of S Chandra Sekhar to physics?


2. The error on measurent of radius of a sphere is 1 % what is the error in the measurent of volume?
3. Wind is blowing from the south at 5m/s. To a cyclist it appears to blowing from the East at 5m/s. Find
the velocity of the cyclist?
4. What is inertia ? what gives the measure of inertia?
5. If the diameter of a soap bubble is 10 mm and its surface tension is 0.04N/m, find the excess pressure
inside the bubble.
6. Give the expression for excess pressure in an air bubble inside the liquid.?
7. Why gaps are left between rails on a railway track?
8. State Newton's law of cooling?
9. State Dalton's law of partial pressures.
10. What is the law of equipartition of energy?
SECTION-B

II Short Answer questions 6 x 4 = 24 M

11. A car travels the first third of a distance with a speed of 10 kmph, the second third at 20kmph and the
last third at 60 kmph. What is its mean speed over the ectire distance ?
12. Define unit vector, null vector and position vector?
Where the terms have their regular meanings.
13. Explain advantages and disadvantages of friction.
14. Distinguish between the centre of mass and centre of gravity.
15. State and Prove the principle of conservation of angular momentum. Explain the principle of
conservation of angular momentum with examples.
16. What is a geostationary satellite? State its uses.
17. Describe behavior of wire under gradually increasing load.
18. Pendulum clocks generally go fast in winter and slow in summer. Why?
SECTION-C
III. Long Answer questions 2 x 8 = 16 M
I)Answer any TWO Questions
ii) Each Question carries EIGHT marks
19. (a) Develop the notions of work and kinetic energy and show that it leads to work-energy theorem and
show that it leads to work –energy theorem?
(b) A machine gun fires 360 bullets perminute and each bullet travels with a velocity of 600 . If
the mass of eachbullet is 5 gm, find the power of the machine gun?
20. (a) Define simple harmonic motion. Show that the motion of projection of a particle performing
uniform circular motion, on any diameter, is simple Harmonic.
b) On an average human heart is found to beat 75 times in a minute. Calculate its frequency and
period.
21. State second law of thermodynamics. How is heat engine different from a refrigerator.
