PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learners shall be able to care for and maintain crops.

COMPETENCY:
The learner will be able to identify the types of pests, collect the samples of common insects and pest
found in garden and perform monitoring of pest incidence based on prescribed procedures.

Types of insect pests


Based on feeding habits insects can be categorized as: Tissue consumers and Sap suckers.
Integration:Science
Tissue consumers- include pest affecting stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and roots, and also
crop residues.
Stem damaging insects
Fruit damaging insects
Leaf damaging insects
Flower feeding insect
Root Damaging Insects
Sap suckers-suck sap from different plant parts affecting growth and development of crops.
Non-insect pests
Mites
Snails and Slugs
Nematodes
Crabs
Millipedes
Rats and mice

4. APPLICATION:
Present a real-life problem related to pest infestations in a specific crop and ask students to
propose a pest management plan, considering the identification, collection of samples, and
monitoring techniques learned.

IV. EVALUATION
Pest Incidence Mapping
1. Provide students with a garden layout or map.
2. Instruct them to mark the areas where pests have been observed or recorded using colored
markers or stickers.
3. Ask students to analyze the pattern of pest incidence and discuss possible reasons for higher or
lower infestation rates in certain areas.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Present a real-life problem related to pest infestations in a specific crop and ask students to propose
a pest management plan, considering the identification, collection of samples, and monitoring
techniques learned.- Students can also create a poster or presentation showcasing different
organisms and their classification.
