Q3. Give one word answer:
a) Jack b) fulcrum
Q4. Correct the underlined word and rewrite the sentence:
a) When a long plank or pole is used to lift a large load, it is called a crowbar (class I lever)
b) Scissors are class I lever as it has fulcrum between the load and effort.
Q5. Circle the odd one out and also give reason for your answer:
a) nut cracker as it is class II lever while others are class I.
Q6. Give reason for the following:
Ans. Yes, it is possible for a light weight boy to lift a heavy weight boy on a see saw, if the distance
between lightweight boy and the fulcrum is more than the distance between the heavy weight boy
and the fulcrum. Because greater the distance between the effort and the fulcrum, easier it is to
move a load.
Q7. Answer the following questions:

Ans 7a) A lever is a plank or pole that rests on a support or is fixed at one point. It has three
main components
a) Fulcrum - It is the point at which a lever is fixed or
supported. This part of the lever does not move.
b) Load - It is the object on which work has to be done.
c) Effort - It is the force applied to do the work. The
greater the distance between the effort and the fulcrum,
the greater is the load that can be moved.
Ans 7 b) Class III lever, Fishing rod is class III lever because
fulcrum is at one end of the rod and effort is being applied between the load and the
fulcrum.
Q8. Image based question:
iii ii
a) Identify the given image (iv) and label its different components.

i) fulcrum
ii) load
iii) Effort i
v)Nut cracker, bottle opener
Q9.Value based question iv. Wheelbarrow

a) 360 longitudes and 181 latitudes. b) Copernicus c) Thematic
Q3. Give one word answer:
a) Prime Meridian b) cartographers c) Asia d) Atlantic ocean
Q4. Correct the underlined word and rewrite the sentence:
a) colours
b) Green
Q5. Circle the odd one out and also give reason for your answer:
a) Cities as others are various landforms.
a) North east as others are main directions
Q6. Give reason for the following:
a) It is not possible to show the accurate shapes of continents and oceans on the maps. Justify
Ans a) It is not possible for a two dimensional map to accurately represent the actual shape of
continents and oceans. This is because the Earth is a three dimensional object that is being shown
on a flat surface.

b) The lines of latitudes also called parallels. Why?

Ans b) All latitudes also called Parallels as they run parallel to the equator and never meet at any
point.

c) It important to use same set of symbols, colours and method of naming direction. Why?
Ansc) It is important to use standard symbols and colours to avoid confusion and for better
understanding of information from maps.

Q7. Answer the following questions:

a) Why is a map scale required? Explain scale of a map.
Ans a) The size of the earth is too big and it is not possible to show the actual distances on the map. So
a map scale is used.
A map scale is the relation between the actual distance on the land and the distance shown on a map .
Example – If the scale shows 1:6, it means 1cm on the map is equal to 6 km on the ground.

b) What is a map key or a legend?

Ans b) A map key or a legend explains the meaning of each of the symbols/ colours used on a map . It
helps to read and understand the map in details.

c) Write the difference between latitudes and longitudes.

LATITUDES LONGITUDES
1. Latitudes are imaginary circular lines running 1. Longitudes are imaginary semi-circular lines
from west to east. running from north to south.
2. Equator is marked as zero degrees latitude. All 2. Prime Meridian is marked as zero degrees
other latitudes are labelled as (N) North of equator longitude. All other longitudes are labelled as (E)
and (S) South of Equator. East and (W) West of the Prime Meridian.
3. All latitudes also called Parallels as they run 3. All longitudes also called Meridians and they
parallel to the equator and never meet at any meet at north pole and south poles.

4. There are 181 latitudes in all. They gradually 4. There are 360 meridians in all. They are all

the longest).
d) Define axis of the Earth. What is the significance of it?
Ans d) Axis of the Earth is an imaginary line joining the North Pole to the South Pole. The Earth
rotates on its axis, which causes day and night. The topmost point on the axis is called the North Pole
and the bottom most point is called the South Pole.
e) Differentiate between Maps and globes.
MAPS GLOBES

a) A map is a drawing of the entire earth or a part of it a) A globe is a model of the earth reduced to a scale.

b) It is a two- dimensional representation of the earth. b) It is a three- dimensional representation of earth.

c) Maps can be folded and are easier to carry. c) Globes are bulky and difficult to carry.

d) Maps can show a lot of information in detail. d) Globes cannot show detailed information

e) We cannot depict the shape, size, movement of the e) Globes can depict the size, shape and movement of
Earth, accurately on a map. the Earth more accurately.

Q8. Identify and label the given diagrams:

axis
International dateline (180 degree longitude)
Prime Meridian (0 degree longitude)

Lines of longitude (Meridians) Globe
