CHAPTER I
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Introduction
Electrical installation and maintenance activities play a pivotal role in providing and
sustaining power infrastructure for various sectors, including residential, commercial, and
industrial. As these activities involve working with electrical systems and equipment, ensuring
robust electrical safety practices is paramount to prevent accidents, safeguard workers, and
maintain the reliability of electrical installations. Despite established guidelines and standards, it
is imperative to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of electrical safety practices in the field of
electrical installation and maintenance to identify potential gaps, challenges, and areas for
improvement. On this research enhancing electrical safety practices, it becomes evident that the
integration of a proactive risk management framework is indispensable. Beyond reactive measures,
the identification and assessment of potential risks before they materialize are essential elements
of a comprehensive safety strategy. This forward-thinking approach not only minimizes the
likelihood of accidents but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement where lessons learned
contribute to refining safety protocols.
In parallel, the concept of human factors in electrical safety deserves special attention.
Recognizing the role of human behavior, cognition, and decision-making in the workplace can
significantly impact the effectiveness of safety measures. Education campaigns emphasizing the
importance of adherence to safety protocols, the impact of fatigue on performance, and the
psychology behind risk perception contribute to creating a safety-conscious workforce. The advent
of remote monitoring and diagnostic technologies introduces a paradigm shift in the way electrical
systems are managed. Real-time data analytics and predictive maintenance tools empower
maintenance teams to identify potential issues remotely, minimizing the need for physical
intervention and reducing exposure to on-site risks. This not only enhances safety but also
optimizes operational efficiency and extends the lifespan of electrical equipment. In our ongoing
exploration, we will delve into case studies that showcase successful implementations of
innovative safety measures. From the adoption of robotics in hazardous environments to the
application of machine learning algorithms for predictive safety analytics, these examples
illuminate the transformative potential of cutting-edge technologies in mitigating risks and
ensuring the well-being of personnel involved in electrical installation and maintenance.
Furthermore, the dialogue surrounding regulatory frameworks will be a focal point, as
collaboration with regulatory bodies is essential for harmonizing safety standards and ensuring
compliance across the industry. By fostering an environment of mutual cooperation, the industry
can contribute to the development of regulations that are not only effective in safeguarding
personnel but also adaptive to the evolving landscape of electrical technologies. In essence, this
exploration is a dynamic endeavor, aiming to navigate the evolving currents of electrical safety
practices. Through a holistic approach that encompasses technological innovation, human factors,
and regulatory collaboration, we aspire to contribute to the creation of a safer and more resilient
future for electrical installation and maintenance activities across diverse sectors. The overarching
goal of this thesis is to contribute valuable insights into the current state of electrical safety
practices in the field of electrical installation and maintenance. By identifying strengths and
weaknesses, this research aims to provide actionable recommendations for enhancing safety
measures, improving training programs, and fostering a culture of safety within the electrical
profession. The outcomes of this study can serve as a foundation for informed decision-making by
regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, and professionals involved in electrical installation and
maintenance.

Definition of Terms
In order to make the readers fully understand this study, the following terms are
operationally defined:
Risk. This refers to a risk to a person of death, shock or other injury caused directly or
indirectly by electricity.
Performance. This refers to the student achievement using a variety of measure, both
status and growth related.
This chapter aims to provide the related literature and studies about the electrical safety
practices in Lubang Vocational High School.

Historically, the evolution of electrical safety standards and regulations has been shaped
by a series of critical events and milestones. Smith (2010), outlines the progression of safety codes,
highlighting how incidents and technological advancements have influenced the development of
safety standards specific to electrical installation and maintenance.
A critical aspect of electrical safety practices lies in the regulatory frameworks governing
these activities. According to Johnson et al. (2004), assess the effectiveness of current regulations
in ensuring safe practices during electrical installation and maintenance. The literature scrutinizes
the alignment between established regulations and actual on-site practices.
Safety Compliance Institute (2005), investigates the level of adherence to electrical safety
regulations within the industry. This body of literature aims to identify factors influencing
compliance and offers insights into the challenges faced by professionals in maintaining adherence
to established safety protocols.
Training programs play a pivotal role in shaping the knowledge and skills of professionals
engaged in electrical installation and maintenance. The work of Education and Safety Foundation
(2012), evaluates the effectiveness of current training initiatives, emphasizing their impact on
safety outcomes and identifying areas for improvement.
Understanding the human factors influencing safety practices is crucial for devising
effective safety measures. According to Behavior in Electrical Safety Group (2018), delve into the
psychological aspects of risk perception, decision-making, and the development of a safety culture
among professionals and students involved in electrical installation and maintenance.
This literature review synthesizes existing knowledge on the evaluation of electrical safety
