the satisfaction of the Engineer. Installations must be of brand-new quality, free from
leaks, holes, scratches, impurities, and equipment must be properly calibrated.
- Upon substantial completion, all work shall be presented to the owner for
endorsement. The owner will inspect the work and approve it if found satisfactory. In
case of non-conformance during inspection, the contractor is responsible for
rectifying the deviation at their own expense, without imposing additional costs on
the owner. Payment and acceptance of the work shall only occur once it is deemed
satisfactory by either the Owner or the Engineer, representing the Owner.
- All work must adhere to the architectural, structural, fire protection, mechanical, and
electrical plans, and must be verified for potential interferences and conditions that
may affect the work.
C. MAINTENANCE
- The Plumbing Contractor shall submit AS-BUILT Plans upon endorsement of the
completed project, accomplished in at least two (5) sets reflecting the actual layout
and deviation from the originally issued drawings. This drawing shall be scaled of not

F. Jointing/ Fittings
Screwed Joints
- US Federal Specifications GG-P-251.
H. Other Materials
- In the event of brand or material substitutions, the contractor must formally submit
a request, duly sealed, to the Design Engineer for assessment and evaluation,
including comments and approval."
Material Compaction
- Ensure that each layer or lift of specified material is compacted to achieve in-place
density not less than the specified percentage of maximum density.
Concrete Protection
- Pipes shall be laid on a cement concrete bed or cradles as indicated in the drawings.
The pipes should then be placed on the bed or cradles and set to the required line
gradient using right rails and bonding rods.
D. Miscellaneous
Cleanouts
- Cleanouts shall be installed at every change of direction of the pipe for maintenance
purposes and shall be of the same size as the pipe it connects to.
Traps
- Traps and connections shall facilitate the free and silent flow of discharging water.
- Each trap shall be positioned as close as possible to the fixture, and no fixture shall
have double traps.
Valves
- Valves shall be installed on all water supplies to fixtures as specified in the plans
provided. (Refer to the plan for the required valve installations.)
Junction Boxes
- Junction boxes for storm and sanitary (sewer) drainage lines outside the building shall
have cast-in-place reinforced concrete covers.
Material
- Pipes shall be made of reinforced concrete (250mm diameter and larger) and non-
reinforced concrete (200mm diameter and smaller), conforming to ASTM C-14-75.
Installation
Bedding Surfaces
- Bedding surfaces must provide a firm foundation, carefully leveled to match the specified
line and grade.
Pipe Laying
- Concrete pipes shall be laid carefully with hubs upgraded and ends closely aligned.
Jointing
- Joints shall be sealed with cement mortar consisting of one part Portland cement to 1.5
parts clean sharp sand, mixed to achieve workable consistency. The joint must be completely
filled and thoroughly compacted with a wooden caulking tool. Excess mortar should be
removed, and the joint finished smoothly to the level of the pipe exterior.
Excavation Method
- Excavation for sewer and storm drains shall be conducted through open cutting unless
written permission is obtained from the consultant for tunneling. Excavated soil shall
be retained for refilling the trenches later.
Support Systems
- The contractor shall provide efficient and effective support for the sides of sewer
trenches and other excavations using suitable timbering, bracing, and shoring. Loose
or sandy strata and areas below the sub-soil water level shall be adequately timbered.
Responsibility
- The contractor is accountable for the sufficiency of all timbering, bracing, and shoring
used, as well as any damage to persons or property resulting from improper quality,
strength, placement, or removal of such support systems.
H. Testing
- Testing shall be conducted in accordance with applicable local codes.
I. Backfilling
- Backfilling shall commence after pipes have been tested for leaks. The contractor shall
compact the soil to achieve not less than the specified percentage of maximum dry
density as determined by ASTM D698.
Backfill Material
- Except for special pavement materials, the remainder of the trench shall be backfilled
with material free from stones larger than 6 inches in diameter, with layered thickness
not exceeding 6 inches.
Ball Test
- The contractor must ensure proper grade in the drainage pipes. A
representative/inspector will use a ball to check for adequacy by inserting it into a
fitting. If the grade is correct, the ball will travel to the clean-out.
Water Test
- During installation of rough-in drainage and vents, a water test can be conducted by
filling the system with water to a minimum depth of 3 meters. All rough openings
must be tightly sealed below the clean-out. The system should be filled to the level of
the highest point, such as the vent terminal, and maintain this water level for at least
15 minutes.
Smoke Test
- A smoke generator is used to fill the system until smoke begins coming out of the vent
terminal. Once smoke is visible, the system should be plugged or capped. Maintain
the system filled with smoke at a pressure of 1 inch of water column (less than 0.04
psi) for 15 minutes without adding more smoke.
Test Medium
- Only potable water can be used to test potable water distribution pipes.
Air Removal
- Ensure air is removed from the system through valves and fittings before testing.
Inspection
- The normal operating supply pressure is sufficient for testing. Visually inspect every
fitting and connection for leaks, and recheck for small leaks after an hour, especially
on threaded connections.
Defective Work
- The contractor is accountable for rectifying any repeated work if the system fails to
receive approval from the inspector.
- The contractor, in conjunction with the inspector, may repeat the testing of the system
until it meets the required standards for leak testing satisfactorily.
Distinction of Water Distribution System and Water Tanks (as per AWWA C-601):
Approval Process
- Disinfection of pipelines should not commence until all necessary appurtenances and
sample points are installed and approved by the inspector through written
confirmation of the disinfection process results.
- Efforts should be made to maintain the water main and its appurtenances clean and
dry during the installation process.
- Any valves, fittings, or appurtenances that become contaminated during installation
must be thoroughly rinsed with potable water and treated with a 5% sodium
hypochlorite disinfecting solution before installation.
Timing of Disinfection
- Disinfection of the pipelines should not occur simultaneously with hydrostatic testing.
Disinfection is to be conducted only after the lines have been flushed and have
successfully passed the hydrostatic test.
K. Responsibility
Construction Activities
- The contractor is responsible for planning and executing all activities pertinent to the
construction of a dwelling, building, or other structure.
