Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

Tourism Site Profile

Haduan Falls is one of the hidden gems of Pampanga, nestled within the lush

landscapes of Mabalacat City in the Philippines. It stands as a captivating natural wonder

in the region. Its cascading waters, surrounded by verdant foliage and picturesque terrain,

not only offer a scenic retreat but also serve as an ecological and cultural landmark. It is a

privately owned 8.5 hectares forest community donated by the local government and the

DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade to the indigenous people of Sitio Haduan in Mabalacat

before, as a way to help them.

It is populated by approximately 250 aeta families. The place is a community and

also a tourist attraction. Since Haduan Falls is now owned by the aeta community of Sitio

Haduan, management of the site and the tour guiding are solely done by them, you need to
pay 100 pesos entrance and tourguide fee and another 200 pesos for community fee.

However, there are no available facilities around the site, but they have Elementary

School and Health Care Center. Anyone could travel here but they only have limited

number of tourist allowed in one day, they could only accommodate 40-50 tourists and

they could start for as early as 4 in the morning up to 4 in the afternoon due to the fact that

it is unsafe to trek on a rocky stream at night with limited access to light. Before reaching

the falls you will need to cross a hanging bridge, where you can enjoy the beautiful

scenery and take pictures. While trekking you can experience a very challenging journey,

because you will need to walk in an almost kilometer stream with lots of rocks and

boulders.

The Haduan area is ideal for those who prefer the outdoors; although the trip can

be challenging, it is worthwhile since when reaching the falls, you can rest, relax, and

enjoy the scenery and the cold water. Understanding the multifaceted aspects of Haduan

Falls is not only an endeavor to unravel the mysteries of its origin but also an essential

step towards conserving this invaluable natural treasure for future generations. This

research aims to understand and meet the requirements necessary for the conservation and

sustainable promotion of Haduan Falls. This involves studying its geological, ecological,

and cultural aspects while identifying strategies crucial for its conservation.
