SR4S Case Study Bogota

The document discusses improvements made to pedestrian facilities near a school in Bogota, Colombia. An assessment found high pedestrian volumes and safety risks at intersections. Temporary interventions were tested, then permanent changes were made, including safe crossings and lower vehicle speeds. This increased safety ratings from 2-3 stars to 4-5 stars.

March 2018: As part of the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety
(BIGRS), in partnership with the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility
and NACTO-GDCI, the Mobility Secretariat started a pilot project in the
area. The countermeasures were first tested with temporary materials
to verify their impact. Cones and plants were introduced to create safe
pedestrian crossings to the school, protect vulnerable users and enforce
motorised vehicles to travel at a safe speed.

FOUNDING
SPONSOR The Star Rating for Schools App (SR4S) is the first systematic approach based on
evidence to analyse, measure, manage and communicate the risk associated with
the road infrastructure around schools. The tool combines an easy-to-use School
Assessment Android app and a Global Reporting for Schools web application. These
MAJOR DONOR applications work together to harness the power of the International Road Assessment
Programme’s (iRAP) Pedestrian Star Ratings to measure the risk children are exposed to
on their journey to school.
