Practical 4

The document provides information to calculate estimated annual soil loss using the USLE formula. It gives values for rainfall erosivity index, soil erodability index, crop management factor, conservation practice factor, and slope length factor. Plugging these values into the USLE formula results in an estimated annual soil loss of 14.4 tonnes/hectare per year.

PRACTICAL NO. 4

Object : Measurement of soil loss & What will be estimated annual soil loss?

In an area subjected to soil erosion, the following information is available:

Rainfall erosivity index (R): 1200 MJ-mm/ha-h-y

Soil erodability index (k): 0.20 t-ha-h/ha-MJ.mm

Crop management factor ( C): 0.60

Conservation practice factor (P): 1.0

Slope length factor (LS): 0.1

Solution

Using the USLE, the soil loss is obtained as

A= R ×K×L×S×C×P

A = 1200×0.20×0.60×1.0×0.1=14.4 tonnes/hectare per year.
