Method Statement - (WR) MSCL Pipe Installation
Method Statement - (WR) MSCL Pipe Installation
A) SCOPE
The purpose and scope of this document is to describe and define the process for the
installation/connection of mild steel truss for water reticulation works (within boundary). This is
to ensure that the work is carried out in a controlled and systematic manner and in all aspects
confirms to the specified requirements.
B) MANPOWER
Construction Manager (CM) / Project Engineer (PE) / M&E Engineer / M&E Coordinator
- Shall arrange all materials, equipment, manpower and direct the Site Engineer to resort
appropriate action for the smooth execution of the works.
QAQC Engineer
- Shall be responsible for ensuring that execution of works is complying with approved
materials, method statement and specifications.
C) MATERIALS
Main materials for this works, but not limited as listed below:
Mild Steel Concrete Lining Pipes (168.3mm OD)
Ref.: MOCK/C&S/050 (Pipefab Industries Sdn. Bhd.)
Collar Joint
Welding Rod
Petrolatum Tape
PVC Outer-wrapped
Ferrule Cock
D) WORK PROCEDURE
Setting Out
All setting out for pipe laying works shall be performed by the Contractor's surveyor.
Usually, surveyor will do a survey and pegging for roadworks as a guideline for water reticulation pipeline
position.
Before commencing the excavation of pipe trenches, the routes of the pipelines shall be pegged
out accurately.
The trench shall be excavated to the width approximately 450mm-600mm and depths
approximately 1000mm (550mm depth below Road Level for roadworks + 150mm sand
backfilling + 150mm MSCL pipe + 150mm sand bedding).
450-600mm
SAND
150mm ND
MSCL Pipe
Pipe bedding
Sand as the pipe bedding and foundation shall be prepared, inspected and approved by the S.O.
Pipeworks
Pipe laying will be carried out as soon as trenching is completed. Pipe to be laid will first be
inspected for damaged of external wrapping and welded ends to be wire brushed clean to remove
mud/ dirt before placing into position.
Pipe will be laid to the lines and levels shown on the drawings or as otherwise directed by SO. The
alignment for laying of pipes will strictly follow the alignment pegs given.
The alignment of the pipes is adjusted according to the requirement and the pipe mouth is brought
closer to the other pipe mouth which has already been laid.
Welding
Where the steel pipes are to be joined by welding, only external circumferential welding is
required base on specification for 150mm Ø ND pipe.
Where pipes are to be joined by a steel split collar, the pipe ends and the collar will be cleaned. The
collar will then be placed on the ends of the pipe so that the space between the pipe ends will be
about 25mm from the centerline of the collar. The collar will be clamped tightly onto pipes using
Before welding is over, any previously deposited metal will be completely removed and the weld
metal and the adjacent pipe metal will be cleaned by wire brushing.
Upon welding of joints, the bare metal at the joints will be thoroughly cleaned and will be
immediately wrapped with petrolatum tape and pvc outerwrapped.
Refilling of trench
Trench filling will only be carried out upon inspection by SO or his representative.
Sand will be deposited in layers and rammed into the pipe trench with suitable shaped rammers.
