1 Source of Drain Calculation

The sources of seepage water are :

a) Rain Water Intensity 50mm/hr
5 Calculation of cross pipe from retaining wall sccuper drain to track side drain.

V = 1 X R2/3 X S1/2
n

V = velocity in metres per second,

D= dia. Of pipe.
= 100 mm = 0.1 meter
R = Hydraulic radius = Area (c/s)
wetted perimeter
= ∏/4 d2 = d = 0.1 = 0.025 mtr.
∏d 4 4
S= Slope
= 1 : 40 as per IRS CBC clause 15.2.2
n = Manning,s coefficient.
= 0.013
V = 1 X 0.025 2/3 X .025 1/2
0.013

=1.04 metre per second

Q=AXV
Q = Discharge through pipe
A = Area of pipe
= ∏ X 0.12
4
V = 1.04 metre per second
Q = ∏ X 0.12 X 0.918
4
Q = 0.0072 m3 per sec.
Q = 7.2 liter per second

Hence selected pipe 100 mm dia.

For 75% of flow condition = 5.4 lps
Total no. of cross pipe 100 mm dia. (for half side of station )= 6 nos.
(expected discharge from one 100mm dia. Pipe ) = #REF! lps
Pipe flow 5.4 lps > 5.28 lps expected discharge.
therefore size is verified.

= 1.46 metre per second

Q=AXV
Q = Discharge through pipe
A = Area of pipe
= ∏ X 0.22
4
V = 1.46 metre per second
Q = ∏ X 0.22 X 1.46
4
Q = 0.0458 m3 per sec.
Q = 45.8 liter per second.
Q = 45.8 lps
For 75% of flow condition = 34.35 lps
Total no. of cross pipe 200 mm dia. (for one side of seepage discharge) = 2 nos.
expected discharge from one 200mm dia. Pipe = 47.422/2 = #REF! lps
Pipe flow 34.35 lps > 23.711 lps expected discharge.
therefore size & velocity is verified.
7 Drain pipe from escalator pit / lift pit:
Max. flow from sprinklers from escalator pit( considered 3 sprinklers @ 1.59 lps) = max. 4.8 lps
Assuming 100 mm dia pipe
By Manning's formula:
V = 1 X R2/3 X S1/2
n

V = velocity in metres per second,

D= dia. Of pipe.
= 100 mm = 0.1 meter
R = Hydraulic radius = Area (c/s)
wetted perimeter
= ∏d2 /4 = d = 0.1 = 0.025 mtr.
∏d 4 4

Hence selected pipe 100 mm dia.

For 75% of flow condition = 5.4 lps
(expected discharge from 100mm dia. Pipe ) = #REF! lps

CALCULATIONS FOR THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM : UNDERCROFT LEVEL
DESIGN CRITERIA.
Design is based on following data / parameters:

a) Requirement of water for floor cleaning . 1L / M2 / DAY ( FROM ODS)

b) Minimum velocity of water flow under gravity (self cleaning cleaning ) 0.75 m/sec ( FROM ODS)

1 Source of Drain Calculation

The sources of seepage water are :

a) Wall Seepage
b) Station Cleaning
c) Station Hydrant Flow
d) Fog nozzle spray system

2 Seepage / Cleaning / Drainage Calculation :

a) Quantity of water from seepage through retaining walls
As per ODS, ingress of seepage water from retaining walls = 0.20 Ltrs/Sq.m/day
Area of retaining walls 5610 Sq.m
Expected quantity of Seeepage water 1122 Ltrs
Total water with peak factor of 2 2244 Ltrs
Rate of water collection 1.56 lpm
For half of station expected discharge = 0.78 lpm

b) Quantity of water from floor area washing.

As per ODS, water requirement for floor cleaning 1.00 Ltrs/Sq.m/day
Area to be cleaned 7770 Sq.m
Expected quantity of cleaning water in 1 days. 7770 Ltrs
Total water for cleaning. 7770 Ltrs
Rate of water collection 5.40 lpm
For half of station expected discharge = 2.70 lpm

c) Dischrage from Hydrant

Total no Hydrant dischrage 1 Nos
Total volume dischrage from Hydrant @946 LPM 946 lpm
Rate of water collection 946 lpm

d) Dichrage of Sprinkler/ Nozzle

Fog nozzle spray system of 77 nozzles= 2369.29 lpm (39.49 lps)
for half of station drainage one side = 77÷ 2
= 38.5 no. of nozzles considered = 2369.29 ÷ 2 = 1184.65 lpm (19.74 lps)
Discharge from single hydrant is = 946 lpm , and discharge from 38.5 no. of nozzles is 1184.65 lpm
So we have considered max value , discharge from 38.5 no. of nozzles = 1184.65 lpm
3 Drainage Flow Calculation
a) ECS Condensate Drain from AHU
Considering condensate water generation per TON per day 10.00 Ltrs( assumed)

Total TON for station 950

Total Condensate drain generated per day 9500 Ltrs
Rate of water collection 6.597 lpm
For half of station expected discharge = 3.299 lpm
(as per prevailing practice in metros in india.)
b) Sccuper drain Flow Calculation
Expected water in sccuper drain
Total 2 hydrant 1892 lpm
Seepage Water 0.78 lpm
Cleaning water 2.698 lpm
ECS water 3.299 lpm
Total drain 1898.78 lpm
31.65 lps
c) Track Drain flow Calcualtion
Total 3 hydrant 2838 lpm
Seepage Water 0.78 lpm
Cleaning water 2.698 lpm
ECS water 3.299 lpm
Total drain flow in track drain 2844.78 lpm
47.41 lps

d) Sprinkler Flow Calculation

Q=K√P
Q = discharge from sprinkler
K = 5.6 gpm / psi 1/2
P = 20.3 psi
Q = 4 x √20.3 = 25.23 gpm
Q = 25.23 x 3.785 = 95.5 lpm
= 1.59 lps
flow from sprinklers = 1.59 lps
Maximum Water Dischrage from Escalator Pit to centre
embedded drainage pipe considering 3 sprinkler dischrage @
95.5 lpm each 287 lpm
4.8 lps
4 Track side drain (300 mm wide)
Mannings formula :
V = 1 X R2/3 X S1/2
n

V = velocity in metres per second,

d= depth of drain channel
= 170 mm = 0.17 meter
R = Hydraulic radius = Area (c/s)
wetted perimeter
Area = w x d = 0.3 x 0.17 = 0.051 m²
Wetted perimeter = 2 x 0.17 + 0.3 = 0.64
R = 0.051/0.64 = 0.079
