• The insulation layer of a cable may deteriorate or be damaged if the cable is used in a high-temperature environment. Keep
the cable at least 30 mm away from heat-generating components or heat sources.
• Do not route cables around the air intake vent and air exhaust vent of devices.
• Cables should meet the VW-1 flame-retardant requirements.
• Bind cables of the same type together. When routing cables of different types, ensure that they are at least 30 mm away
from each other.
• Ensure that all cables are securely bound. Route and bind cables so that they are neat and tidy and cable sheaths are intact.
• The bending radius of a cable must be at least five times the diameter of the cable.
• The figures provided in this document are for reference only.

2 Installing an ESM

• Smoking and sparks are prohibited near batteries.

• Before installing batteries, ensure that the battery circuit breakers are switched off.
• Comply with the regulations and warnings issued by battery manufacturers.
• Use tools with insulated handles to prevent batteries from burning and to ensure personal safety.
• During battery operations, wear goggles, rubber gloves, and protective clothing. Remove any conductive objects, such as
watches, bracelets, bangles, and rings.
• If battery acid gets into your eyes, rinse with cold water for more than 15 minutes and seek medical advice immediately. If
battery acid comes into contact with skin or clothing, wash with soap and water immediately.
• Do not use metal to simultaneously touch two or more terminals of the battery. Do not use metal to touch both a battery
terminal and a grounded object such as a battery compartment. Otherwise, a short circuit will occur, which may produce
sparks.
• During battery installation, ensure that the positive and negative battery terminals are correctly connected to prevent
reverse polarity. Connect the negative battery cable and then the positive battery cable.
• Secure battery cables to the torque specified in the battery documentation. Loose connections will result in excessive
voltage drops or cause batteries to burn out when the current increases.

• It is recommended that lithium batteries are from the same manufacturer, of the same model, and in the same batch.
• Comply with the regulations and warnings issued by lithium battery manufacturers.
• Before installing lithium batteries, ensure that the battery circuit breakers in the power system
are switched off or that the battery fuses are removed.

• When routing cables, reserve at least 30 mm clearance between the cables and heat-generating components or areas. This
prevents deterioration or damage to the cable insulation layer.
• Do not route cables behind the air intake and exhaust vents of the equipment.
• Ensure that cables of the same type are bound together neatly and straight and that the cable sheath is intact. When
routing cables of different types, ensure that they are at least 30 mm away from each other .
• The bending radius of a cable must be at least five times the diameter of the cable.

a) Install an ESM according to the quick

installation guide and check whether
floating nuts are installed on both sides
of the rack. If not installed, install the
floating nuts delivered with the cabinet
on both sides of the rack.
b) Push the ESM into the cabinet and
secure it.

Cabinet or site ground bar

c) Wear protective gloves.

d) Install a ground cable for the ESM.

2
3 Installing ESM Cables

• When installing a power cable of the ESM, ensure that the protruding part of the OT
terminal on the cable faces outwards.
• After the ESM communications cables are installed, connect a termination (a component) to
the COM_OUT port of the last battery.
• Do not connect two or more cables to the positive or negative power port of the ESM in
parallel.
• A Huawei power system automatically identifies ESMs and sets battery parameters. There is
no need to set the parameters onsite. To check the ESM running status or change the charge
current limit coefficient, log in to the WebUI or LCD of the Huawei power system.
• The Huawei power system uses the monitoring module SMU02B/SMU02C/SMU06T2. The
software version for SMU02B/SMU02C must be SMU V500R002C00 or later, and that for
SMU06T2 must be iSitePower V100R02200SPC100 or later.
• If the ESM-48100B1 is used with the ESM-48100B5, enable the automatic hybrid use
function for the ESM-48100B1.
