Simulator
3.1 Abstract
PowerWorld Simulator is a software designed for simulating high voltage power sys-
tems. The primary task is to draw a power flow diagram within the software and
observing the associated power losses. It helps in analyzing the real-world power
system dynamics,power flow and losses.
3.2 Introduction
PowerWorld Simulator is an interactive power system simulation package designed to
simulate high voltage power system operation on a time frame ranging from several
minutes to several days.It help us to visualize the real world problems to get better
insights of what happening in the system than the theoretical concept.
3.3 Objectives
The main objectives of the lab are:
• Know how to develop a power network in the software and how to perform
different analysis on it.
• Develop a small two generator, three bus system and one load.
• Change the load value during simulation and observe its results.
3.4 Procedure
1. Open Power World Simulator.

4. After making the circuit clicking ’field’ option will lead you to the tools deter-
mining in the power losses of the system.
3.6 Discussion
The analysis on power flow diagram Figure 1.2 shows the total reactive, active power
loses and power consumed by the system. The losses are due to resistance and reac-
tances of the transmission lines used as in the real world system.Bus 1 is slack bus
and is providing power to all the system by adjusting its power.Generator was set to
the capacity where it can meet all the demand of busses

3.8 Discussion
The power flow diagram shows the total power losses and power consumed. There
is one slack bus which is bus 1 providing power to all the system. There are two
generators as shown in the figure 1.2 to meet the demand by adjusting its capacity
when the system is run state.
3.9 Conclusion
The PowerWorld Simulator is a strong tool for the power flow analysis as it gives
insight of the real world problem. It shows where the power is loss during transmission
as theoretically ideal cases are discussed which shows no power losses.
