Field signals By hand

1.) Deploy:- Right Arm Fully Extended above head and waved from side to side , palm open
2.) Advance:- Right Arm swung from rear to front in under arm bowling action
3.) Halt :- Right Arm Raised to full extent above head palm open
4.) Freeze :- Right Arm Raised to full extent above head fist open
5.) Turn About :- Right Arm Raised and bent over head
6.) Change Direction:- Right Arm Raised to front in line with shoulder Body then turned in
required Direction
7.) Close :- Right Hand Placed on the top of the head , elbow to the right
8.) Lie Down :- Right Arm Fully Extended at waist level swing back and forth , palm facing
downwards and not going behind the body
9.) All clear :- Thumb pointed upwards from a clenched fist
10.) House Or Hut:- Hands Folded in inverted V to indicate shape of roof
11.) Scout Group:- clenched fist with forefinger upright
12.) Obstacles:- Clearing track junction , rivers crossing etc arms crossed
13.)Join me :- Hand Placed on top of the head elbow square to the right or left according to
which hand is used
14.) Increase Speed :- Clenched hand moved up and down between thigh and shoulders
15.) Slow Down :- Arms Extended To The side below the shoulder palm downwards moved
slowly up and down wrist loose
16.) Reconnaissance:- Hands held to eyes as though using a telescope
17.) O Group :- Fingers Together moved in conjunction with thumb to indicate person talking
18.) Adjust Spacing / Spread Out :- With the free hand held between the waise and shoulder
and the palm pointing outwards motion outwards from the body
19.) Platoon Commander:- Two opened Finger held on shoulder to indicate a lieutenant stars
20.) Platoon Sergeant:- Three Fingers held against arm to indicate sergeant stripes
21.) Get Up and climb into the vehicle :- right hand put forward swing upwards from waist level
palm open facing up
22.) Start the vehicle:- Twist fist like putting key in the key hole
23.) Quick Time:- Right hand raised to line of shoulder , elbow closed to the side
24.) Double March :- Right fist clenched moved up and down between thigh and shoulders
several times.
25.) Follow me:- Right Arm Swing from rear to front above the shoulder in over arm bowling
action
26.) Last order completed:- right hand to salute then arm raised in air Fingers Extended
27.) Last order not understand;- Both hands cupped behind the ears
28.) Commander To Close :- right arm to the side at 45 degrees to the body fist clenched
29.) Enemy in sight specific numbers :- both arms waved on side bird fashion followed by
number , indicated by number of fingers held up
30.) Enemy Approaching:- Both hands open palm inwards at waist level with inwards scooping
motion
31.) Enemy position suspected:- both hands fist clenched raised to shoulder level followed by
indication of direction.
32.) Enemy LMG firing:- right hand thumb down signal
33.) EngageTarget by fire ;- both hands clasped the head like a ( boxer fashion)
34.) Attack:- punching motion with right or left hand according to direction of attack
35.) Closed to rendezvous :- close sign followed by both hands clasped in front of body at waist
level
36.) Infantry Obstacle ahead :- both hands crossed in front of body at the waist palm open
downwards
37.) Follow me:- raise the right arm and move the arm back to front to lowering a bit in front .
38.) Spread :- stretch the full right arm above the head and move it in to and fro motion and
circular motion keep palms open
39.) Quick March :- extend the right arm forward paralled to the ground elbow adjacent and
palm open
40.) Accumulate on meeting place :- symbolise the plus sign + by keeping hands on waist line
41.) Single File :- Both Arms Stretched in the opposite direction in front and behind the body
making a straight line at 45 degrees angle.
42.) File Formation:- Both Arms Stretched downwards and behind body kept parallel to each
other .
43.) Arrow Head :- Both Arms Stretched little behind the body opening outwards at an angle of
45 degrees from shoulders.
44.) Spear Head :- Both Arms Raised With Hands Folded on top of head.
45.) Diamond - Both Arms Raised With Thumbs Up , fist closed placed over the head.
46.) Extended Line :- Both Arms Stretched outwards from the shoulders and kept parallel to
ground .

Field signals by Weapon


1.) Enemy in sight in small number :-rifle held above the head parallel to the ground muzzle in
the direction of enemy .
2.) Enemy in sight in large number:- rifle held above the head parallel to the ground muzzle in
the direction of enemy but arm moved up and down several times
3.) Advance :- both arms raised to form the letter U
4.) Enemy can not be seen :- Keep the rifle straight (vertical) over the shoulder
5.) No Ammunition:- Keep the barallel of the gun down towards the earth

Field Signals by Whistle


1.) Cautionary blast / For Alertness :- a short blast to draw attention to a signal or order about to
be given
2.) The alarm blast / For Danger :- a succession of Alternate long and short whistle
3.) Enemy aircraft :- a succession of short blast / give very short whistles after pauses
4.) Enemy aircraft departed :- two Long whistles after the interval of 5 seconds

Field Signals Used In Night / Signals In Day


1.) Radio Set / 1.) Flags
2.) Click By Fingers/ 2.) Smoke
3.) Clicks By Using Tongue/ 3.) Mercury Coated Mirrors
4.) Mini Flare / 4.) Hurricane Lantern kept in the window
5.) Use of blacked Out Torch / 5.) Applying Various colours/ sign clothe pieces on forehead and
arms
