AUTO-22001 Individual Assignment

Name: ADRES BARRATT

Campus: POINT LISAS
Instructor name: Rohan kanhai

Answer the following questions:

1. Mainline pressure varies according to: (2 marks each)

a) Road conditions
b) Gear selection
c) Load

2. How is mainline-pressure boosted in reverse? (5 marks)

The PCM can increase line pressure in reverse by diverting fluid to the reverse boost plug,
lowering electric current to the PCS, and sending EPC pressure to the spring side of the
regulator valve

3. Will mainline pressure increase during acceleration? (2 marks)

a) Yes.
b) No

4. Name three balance valves in an automatic transmission valve circuit. (3 marks each)
a) Governor
b) Modulator Valve
c) Throttle Valve

5. Define limp mode. (5 marks)

The PCM can instruct the limp mode, or default mode it takes place if the transmission loses
power which has one forward gear, one backward gear, and the highest mainline pressure if
the transmission loses power.
There is a limp mode available on all electronically controlled automatic transmissions.

6. Give the state of the various clutches of a transmission in second –overdrive. (2 marks
each)
Forward clutch – APPLIED
Direct clutch – NOT APPLIED
Intermediate band - APPLIED
Low Roller Clutch – NOT APPLIED

Fill in the blanks.

7. The PCM is capable of _Adjust_ timing just prior to commanding an upshift. (3 marks)

8. Transmission fluid temperature sensors are primarily used to control shift scheduling and
torque converter clutch_ operation. (3 marks)

9. If transmission temperatures become excessively high, the PCM eliminate the heat
generated in the converter, the converter is locked and the transmission is downshifted
into direct gear.. (3 marks)

10. Two types of solenoids used to control transmission operation are:

a) on/off solenoids

b) pulse width modulated solenoids (PWM).

(3 marks each)
(Total 50 marks)
