MATHEMATICS
Instructions: Attempt the holiday home-work in a separate thin note-book and activity
in A4 sheet with graph pages.

1. Art integrated activity A (To be done by Roll number 1 to 20):

Indian Railways (IR) is a statutory body under the ownership of the Ministry of
Railways of the Government of India that operates India's national railway system.
As of 2023, it manages the fourth largest national railway system by size with a
running track length of 104,647 km (65,025 mi) and route length of 68,426 km
(42,518 mi) of which 60,451 km (37,563 mi) is electrified.
Case I: The path of a wheel of railway line A is given by x + 2y – 4 =0 and the path of a
wheel of another railway line B is given by 2x + 4y – 12 =0.
Case II: The path of a wheel of railway line C is given by 2x – 3y – 3 =0 and the path of a
wheel of another railway line D is given by 3x - 4y - 5 = 0.
Represent these situations graphically. Also write the conditions of consistency /
inconsistency.
Art integrated activity B (To be done by Roll number 21 onwards):
A team of architects decided to make 2 D model in graph paper of two towers of
varying heights as shown in two figures. Students of class X tried to replicate the results
as mentioned below:
Case I: Students will be cutting different colour strips of length 1cm, 4 cm, 7 cm, 10 cm, 13
cm and all of the same width 1 cm. Now take a graph paper and paste these rectangular
strips adjacent to each other in order on graph paper as shown in figure 1.
Case II: Students will be cutting different colour strips of length 1cm, 4 cm, 8 cm, 10 cm, 11
cm and all of the same width 1 cm. Now take a graph paper and paste these rectangular
strips adjacent to each other in order on graph paper as shown in figure 2.
Students will observe from figure 1 that adjoining strips have a common
difference in heights and a ladder is formed in which the adjoining steps are
constant. Hence it is an arithmetic progression while figure 2 does not represent
an A.P.

5. Check whether 5n can end with the digit 0 for any natural number n.
6. Show that 5 + 2√3 is an irrational number.
7. Show that √5 is an irrational number.

8. If (x + k) is a factor of 2x2 + 2kx + 5x + 10, find k.
9. If α and β are the zeroes of the polynomial p (x) = 3x2 – 5x + 6, find

15. Find the value of k, for which 2x – 3y = 7; (k + 2) x – (2k + 1) y = 3(2k – 1) has
infinitely many solutions.
16. Find the value of k for which (3k + 1) x + 3y – 2 =0; (k2+1) x + (k-2) y – 5=0 has no
solution.
17. Solve 2x – 3y + 13 = 0 and 3x – 2y + 12 =0 by substitution method.
18. Solve 3x – 4y – 1 =0 and 2x – y + 5 =0 by elimination method.

age of father will be three-quarter of the sum of the ages of his children. Find the
present age of father.

PHYSICS
Students are expected to write the following on A- 4 size paper.
1. A concave mirror is used for image formation for different positions of an object. What
inferences can be drawn about the following when an object is placed at a distance of 5
cm from the pole of a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm?
(a) Position of the image
(b) Size of the image
(c) Nature of the image
2. Mr. Ravi was helping her daughter at home understanding about the basics of reflection
of light. He found the simplest way to convey the role of curved mirrors using stainless
steel teaspoon. His daughter got surprised to know that virtual image is that which can
be seen but cannot be obtained on the screen. Mr. Ravi then explained the formation of
image using ray diagrams.
(a) State the laws of reflection of light?
(b) The angle between incident ray and reflected ray is 75°. What is the value of angle
of incidence?
(c) What happens to a light ray that is incident normally on a surface?
3. Click at least 2 real and natural photographs showing the 2 different phenomenon of
Light. Take print outs and explain the Physics phenomenon involved in each
photograph.
4. Read chapter Light- Reflection and Refraction, and write any 5 Questions which are
frequently asked in CBSE board examination and solve them. (Mention the year also).

CHEMISTRY
Activity: Building molecular models to explore chemical bonding
Introduction: When atoms link together to form molecules, the atoms are held together by
connections called chemical bonds. These bonds represent the electrons that “glue”
the atoms together. Various models can be used to represent molecules of different
compounds. In the picture below is a structural diagram of a molecule of water, H2O.
A structural diagram is a drawing on paper. Each atom is represented by its
chemical symbol and a straight line drawn between the symbols represents each bond.

How do we predict the structural formula of a compound? We do this by creating

three dimensional (3D) models of the molecules known as “ball-and-stick” models.
Coloured circles can be used as models for various types of atoms. Match sticks
represent bonds that hold atoms together. In chemistry, colour codes are used to
represent different types of atoms making up the different elements. Choose colours
of your choice for different elements and fill in the following table (Copy the table in
your sheet):
The ball-and-stick model of water looks something like the diagram below:

Each atom is capable of forming a certain number of bonds.

Bonding capacity is the number of bonds that an atom can form. The bonding
capacities for a few selected elements are indicated in the table below.

Continuing with water as our example, answer the following questions:

1) How many atoms are there in one molecule of water?
2) How many bonds can oxygen form?
3) How many bonds can hydrogen form?
Notice how the bonding capacity of the elements, determines the structural diagram,
the ball-and-stick model, and the chemical formula of a compound!!!! In this activity,
you will build models of some common molecules, and see how bonds can link atoms
together
Purpose : To build and visualize atoms and molecules
Material required: Matchsticks or earbuds, glue, colours, coloured circles
Procedure
1. Use A4 Sheets and construct a table as given below and write your observations in
that format.
2. Using the match sticks, construct the ball-and-stick model of each molecule in the
given table.
3. Draw the structural diagram of each molecule.
4. First one has been done as an example.
5. Answer the analysis questions.
Observations:
Chemical Ball-and-Stick Model (use Structural
Compound Name
Formula proper colour code) Diagram
1. Hydrogen gas H2

2. Oxygen gas
3. Ammonia
4. Carbon Dioxide
5. Nitrogen gas
6. Methane
7. Ethane
8. Hydrogen Peroxide
9.Sulphuric acid
10. Ethanoic acid

Analysis
1. Which of the molecules represent molecules of compounds?
2. Which of the molecules represent molecules of elements rather than molecules of
compounds? Why? What is another name for these types of molecules?
3. How are molecules related to atoms? Describe using your own words.
4. a) How many atoms are there in one molecule of CCl4 (carbon tetrachloride)?
b) How many bonds does a chlorine atom form?
c) How many bonds does a carbon atom form?
d) Based on your answers for part a to c, predict the structural diagram of CCl4
