Question D
A non-inverting amplifier is to be designed to have an ideal closed loop gain of 40. The
voltage amplifier is to be built using an op amp with open loop gain 80 𝑑𝐵 and an internal
input resistance, 𝑟𝑖 = 2 𝑀Ω . The magnitude of the input resistor is fixed at 𝑅1 = 1 𝑘Ω. Find
the values of :

1. The magnitude of the feedback resistor 𝑅𝐹 .


2. The magnitude of the feedback factor 𝛽.
3. The non-ideal closed loop gain.

4. The gain error expressed as a percent.


5. The non-ideal input resistance of the voltage amplifier.

Question E
An inverting amplifier is to be designed to have an ideal closed loop gain of ‒40, and an
input resistance of 5 𝑘Ω. The voltage amplifier is to be built using an op amp which has
an open loop gain of 120 𝑑𝐵, an 𝑟𝑖 = 2 𝑀Ω, and an 𝑟𝑜 = 50 Ω. Find the value of :

1. The feedback resistor 𝑅𝐹 .


2. The non-ideal closed loop gain of the voltage amplifier.
3. The gain error expressed as a percent.
4. The non-ideal input resistance (𝑅𝑖(𝑛𝑜𝑛−𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑙) ) of the amplifier.
5. The non-ideal output resistance (𝑅𝑜(𝑛𝑜𝑛−𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑙) ) of the amplifier.

Question F
A voltage amplifier, made up of a non-inverting amplifier of gain 31, is cascaded with an
inverting voltage amplifier of gain ‒40. The input resistance 𝑅1 of both voltage amplifiers
is specified to be 2 kΩ. The power supply to the voltage amplifiers is ±15 𝑉 with saturation
occurring at ±13 𝑉. The op amp to be used is specified as having an input offset voltage,
𝑉𝑖𝑜 = 10 𝑚𝑉, and input bias current, 𝐼𝐵 = 500 𝑛𝐴. Assume ideal op-amps, and determine
the following :

1. The feedback resistors for each voltage amplifier.


2. The offset voltage at the output of the non-inverting amplifier.
3. The offset voltage at the output of the inverting amplifier.
4. The total worst-case offset voltage at the output of the cascaded amplifiers.
5. The offset minimising resistors (𝑅𝑂𝑀 ) for each voltage amplifier.

An inverting voltage amplifier of gain ‒10 has a 200 kΩ feedback resistor. The op amp
used is specified to have an input offset voltage of 7.5 mV, and an input bias current of

2. The output offset voltage due to the input bias current.
3. The total worst-case output offset voltage.

4. The magnitude of the offset minimizing resistor 𝑅𝑂𝑀 .


5. Design the OVCN for the inverting voltage amplifier.
