Adirondack Health Institute (AHI) is an independent, non-profit organization that is leading the way in
rural health care transformation across a nine-county region of the North Country. AHI supports
hospitals, physician practices, behavioral health providers, community-based organizations, patients and
others in our region to transform healthcare and improve population health.

commitment to making a difference by improving the health of our community. We are seeking a
Director, Healthcare Workforce Development to join our team.
The Director, Healthcare Workforce Development will lead AHI’s Healthcare Workforce Development
initiative aimed at addressing chronic healthcare workforce challenges in New York State’s Adirondack
North Country region. The initiative focuses on promoting healthcare careers, creating a future pipeline
of healthcare workers, and providing supportive services to underemployed/unemployed individuals to
enable them to enroll and complete education/training to gain employment in high-demand healthcare
occupations. The Director is responsible for overall program administration, development, management,
and implementation for start-up, compliance, and completion of grant outcomes. The workforce
initiative is supported by a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.
• Convening AHI leadership and external community collaborators for strategic planning to
address changing labor force needs in the healthcare workforce development system.
• Identifying healthcare employers' needs; identifying and addressing participant barriers to
success; and providing links to and support for education and training organizations that can
provide job-relevant skills and access to education and training opportunities.
• Establishing, prioritizing, and fulfilling program goals, objectives, work plan activities, and
reporting deadlines.
• Developing policies and procedures to verify participant eligibility and for the disbursement of
financial and other supportive services for education, training, and barrier removal.
• Developing a data collection system to manage, monitor, and track project progress and to
report program outcomes.
• Managing and guiding the work of collaborators and sub-recipients, ensuring alignment with
project goals, budget, and timeline.
• Conducting outreach and recruitment, and coordinating project activities with local schools,
colleges, community agencies, Area Health Education Centers, Workforce Development
Centers/One Stop Career Centers, and employers.
• Documenting and communicating program progress, challenges, and outcomes to internal and
external stakeholders.
• Managing the budget, tracking project expenditures, and ensuring compliance with funder
regulations and project management requirements.
• Preparing and submitting reports and information in a timely manner as required by grant terms
and conditions.
• Staying current on New York State Education Department and Department of Health healthcare
training program policies, procedures, and certification requirements.
• Working on programmatic design and community partnerships to ensure sustainability beyond
grant funding and explore additional grant opportunities.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required; Masters’ degree preferred.
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in workforce development or demonstrated
understanding of healthcare workforce development strategies and barriers. Three + years of grant
management experience required. Equivalent combination(s) of education and experience may be
considered. Candidates must have demonstrated experience and understanding of healthcare trends
and occupations. Experience working with underrepresented, rural, and economically disadvantaged
groups is a must.
Other Skills: Strong Microsoft Suite skills are required. Must be a demonstrated self-starter with the
ability to take initiative. Knowledge of data management and interpretation required. Strong
organizational and budget management skills are a must. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal
skills and the ability to be a team player, collaborating, building consensus, and leading a multiple-
county, multiple-sector project. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with precise attention
to detail and accuracy is paramount. Candidates should have strong project management skills as well as
the ability to multi-task and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and
priorities.
Other Requirements: The Director will have the ability to work remotely, however, must have the ability
to travel as required. Travel is primarily during the business day throughout Clinton, Essex, Franklin,
Fulton, Hamilton, St. Lawrence, Warren, and Washington counties. Must have a valid New York State
driver’s license and vehicle or provide evidence of mobility within service area.
Functions include but are not limited to: must be able to write and speak clearly using the English
language to convey information; hear at normal speaking levels in both person and over the telephone;
walk or stand; use fingers and hands to feel objects; remain in a stationary position for extended
periods. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth
