question paper. All questions are compulsory.
• Section–A - question no. 1 to 14 - all questions and parts thereof are of one mark each. These
questions contain multiple choice questions (MCQs), very short answer questions, assertion
- reason type questions and case-based questions. Answers to these should be given in one
word or one sentence.
• Section–B - question no. 15 to 16 are short answer type questions, carrying 2 marks each.
Answers to these questions should in the range of 30 to 50 words.

• Section–D – question no. 19 to 20 are long answer type questions carrying 5 marks
each. Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
• There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some questions.
A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
• Wherever necessary, neat and properly labeled diagrams should be drawn.

dioxide is essential for photosynthesis. What is the substance 'X', kept in
watch-glass?

a. Potassium hydroxide
b. Sodium hydroxide
c. Sodium bicarbonate
d. Potassium sulphate

10. Rahul conducts an experiment using an object of height 10 cm and a concave 1

lens with focal length 20 cm. The object is placed at a distance of 25 cm
from the lens. Can the image be formed on a screen?

b. No, as the image formed will be inverted.
c. No, as the image formed will be virtual.
d. Yes, as the image formed will be erect .
Question No. 11 and 12 consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and
Reason (R). Answer these questions selecting the appropriate option given
below:
a. Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct
explanation of assertion.
b. Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct
explanation of assertion.
c. Assertion is true but reason is false.
d. Assertion is false and Reason is true.
11. Assertion: Energy is used during the process of respiration. 1
Reason: Respiration stores energy in the form of ATP.
12. Assertion: The aqueous solutions of glucose and alcohol show acidic 1
character.
Reason: Aqueous solutions of glucose and alcohol do not give H+ ions.
13. The human circulatory system which is also known as blood vascular system 4
comprises muscular chambered heart, a network of closed branching blood
vessels and fluid in the form of blood. Blood vessels – Arteries, Capillaries,
and Veins. Arteries can carry blood from the heart to the different part of the
body. Veins can carry blood from organs to the heart. The heart gets
messages from the body that tell it when to pump more or less blood
depending on a person's needs. For example, when you're sleeping, it pumps
just enough to provide for the lower amounts of oxygen needed by your body
at rest. But when you're exercising, the heart pumps faster so that your
muscles get more oxygen and can work harder.
i. The diagram shows the human circulatory system.

Which row shows the names of blood vessels W and Y?

Blood vessel W Blood vessel Y
a. Pulmonary vein Aorta
b. Vena cava Pulmonary artery
c. Pulmonary artery Vena cava
d. Vena cava Aorta
ii. Which blood vessel has a relatively low carbon dioxide concentration, a high
oxygen concentration and a low blood pressure?
a. Pulmonary artery
b. Pulmonary vein
c. Aorta
d. Vena cava

iii. Which of the following shows the direction that blood flows towards,
through and from the heart?
a. Vena cava ventricle atrium pulmonary vein
b. Pulmonary artery atrium ventricle aorta
c. Aorta ventricle atrium pulmonary vein
d. Pulmonary vein atrium ventricle aorta
iv. Which of the following is a correct explanation as to why mammals have a
double circulatory system?
a. Blood can flow down the body on the left and up the body on the
right.
b. Blood can flow more slowly along the circulatory system.
c. Blood pressure stays the same throughout the circulatory system.
d. Oxygenated and deoxygenated blood are kept separate.

14. The salt pans in Marakkanam, a port town about 120 km from Chennai are the 4
third largest producer of salt in Tamil Nadu. Separation of salt from water is a
laborious process and the salt obtained is used as raw materials for
manufacture of various sodium compounds. One such compound is Sodium
hydrogen carbonate, used in baking, as an antacid and in soda acid fire
extinguishers. The table shows the mass of various compounds obtained when
1litre of sea water is evaporated.

i. i. Which compound in the table reacts with acids to release carbon

dioxide?
a. NaCl
b. CaSO4
c. CaCO3
d. MgSO4
ii. ii.What is the pH of baking soda?
a. 11
b. 12
c. 9
