 PERFORMANCE NOTES

This edition of Hallelujah, commonly referred to as the Hallelujah Chorus

from Handel’s Messiah, has several unique characteristics compared to other
editions of this popular chorus.

1. The Key is one whole step lower (Key of C) for a more comfortable
range for sopranos and tenors especially.
2. There is an optional part provided for the congregation. It is sug-
gested that there be a singer/leader that is visible to the congregation
to give cues at crucial entrances.
3. Optional instrumental parts are provided for the following combina-
tions of instruments with organ accompaniment.
1. Handbells (alone or with any of the instrumental combina-
tions below 3–6). The handbell part may be played by two
ringers.
2. Timpani may be played with any of the combination of
instruments suggested below.
3. One trumpet
4. Two trumpets
5. Brass quartet (I Trombone may be played on Horn)
6. Brass quintet (Tuba is added)
