Self-Introduction Expressions:
Hello! My name is _________.
I am from ( city, country )
I am a (job position) for (number of years) / I am a (year level) (high school/college) student.
I am good at ( skills ).
My hobbies are ______________.
I want to learn English because ( reasons ).
Nice to meet you. / Pleased to meet you.

Basic Sentence Pattern


SUBJECT - a person, animal, place, thing, or concept that does an action.
Example: I like spaghetti.
He reads many books.
My mother prepares my favorite food.

VERB - a word used to describe an action or state.


Example: I will buy a drink.
I love travelling.
They are my friends.

OBJECT - a receiver of an action.


Example: Our cat caught a mouse. (What did the cat catch?)
Marie took us to the zoo last week. (Who did Marie take to the zoo last week?)

TYPES OF OBJECTS

 DIRECT OBJECT (DO)- a receiver of an action. It answers the question “what or


who”.
Example: John kicked the ball. (What did John kick?)
The family hugged their dog. (Who did they hug?)
They built a sandcastle. (What did they build?)

 INDIRECT OBJECT (IO)– the receiver of the direct object. It answers the questions
“to/ for whom.”
Example: Joshua built Emma a fence. (Whom was the fence for?)

I lent him some money. (Whom was the money for?)
IO DO
We bought David a cake. (Whom was the cake for?)
IO DO
COMPLEMENT – a word or phrase that adds more information about the subject or
object

TWO TYPES OF COMPLEMENTS

 SUBJECT COMPLEMENT (SC)- words that follow a linking verb that describes or
renames the subject.
a. As a NOUN
Ex: Ana is a teacher.
Today is Tuesday.

b. As an ADJECTIVE
Ex: Ana is tall.
Your car is amazing.

 OBJECT COMPLEMENT (OC) - a noun or adjective which follows a direct object. Its
function is to rename or describe what the direct object has become.

a. As a NOUN
Ex: I called her a friend.
↳ a friend renames the direct object HER.

b. As an ADJECTIVE
Ex: I made her happy.
↳ happy describes the direct object HER

Activity 1

Directions: Rearrange the words in correct order to make complete sentences and
identify the verb, subject complement, direct object, indirect object and object
complement in the following sentences.
