6- a) Prove that a finitely generated R-module M has a submodule which is not finitely generated. 9

b) Let A and B be submodules of an R-module M. Then prove that (A + B)/B ≅A/A∩B. 8

7- a) Let M be an R-module, where R is a commutative ring with identity. Show that M is simple if and
only if M ≅ R/I, I is a maximal ideal of R. 9

b) Show that any two cyclic R-modules are isomorphic if and only if they have same order ideal. 8

8- a) Every FG – R-module is homomorphic image of a free module. 9


b) Let M be a module over an integral domain R and let T denote the set of torsion elements of M.
Show that T is a submodule of M the quotient module M/T is torsion free. 8
