BLUE CHIP FLIGHT SCHOOL RULES
1. All students are to undergo progress check rides after completion of each ten hours of
instruction before being permitted to continue with their training program.
2. These progress check rides are to be done by the Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) or Grade II
Instructor as designated by CFI and must be entered into the student’s training file and logbook.
3. Students must arrive at least 30 minutes before the booking and do a comprehensive pre-flight
inspection on the aircraft and check the validity of the aircraft documentation.
4. No student may climb into or out of an aircraft whilst the engine is running.
5. No student pilot may fly without authorization, in writing/SEAMS by an instructor in his presence.
6. The flying sequence authorized by an instructor must be strictly adhered by the student pilot.
7. No student pilot may practice low-level flying without an instructor.
8. All students are to familiarize themselves with the general flying area 1 + 2 of Pretoria as
indicated on the aviation map.
9. No student pilot may fly more than 100 nm (nautical miles) from the training base unless
accompanied by the instructor.
10. Student pilots must familiarize themselves with the location and the use of the first aid kit and
fire-fighting equipment in the aircraft.
11. Student, private pilot, or commercial licenses are to be carried for all flights.
12. Any student pilot who has not flown for 4 weeks will have to undergo a check ride with an
instructor before flying solo in the school's aircraft.
13. A visual check of the fuel in the fuel tanks must be carried out during the pre-flight inspection
and no flying will be allowed with less than half tanks of fuel on either side. It is the responsibility of
the pilot in command to ensure that adequate fuel and oil is available before any flight may
commence.
14. The correct oil level must be always maintained, and oil uplift must be recorded in the flight folio.
15. All students, pilots, and instructors shall ensure that the aircraft is equipped with a serviceable
fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and signal strips.
16. After each flight, the aircraft must be properly secured (e.g., Tie-downs, control locks, pitot
covers, window covers, etc).
17. The authorization sheet must be signed off after each flight and the flying times must be
entered.
18. After each flight, the student shall complete the flight folio, also ensure that all doors and
baggage doors are properly closed.
19. ZAll snags on the aircraft must be entered into the flight folio and reported to the Operations
Manager.
20. Flying times must be recorded (Hobbs & Tacho) and must be entered in the flight folio and
authorization sheet after each flight.
(a) Students shall enter their flying times in their logbooks after each flight.
(b) Instructors shall enter flying time and comments in the student training file.

21. Pilots and students shall ensure that the necessary documents are in the aircraft prior to each
flight.
22. Students must have at least 3 hours of solo flight time on circuits and landings before being
permitted to do flights to the General Flying Area.
23. No student shall fly solo UNLESS he/she has attended the radiotelephony course or
alternatively be signed out in his logbook to conduct radiotelephony procedures solo in the
Wonderboom Circuit or Area.
24. No student shall begin his navigation training unless he has completed 10 hours of solo flying
time.
25. No student shall begin his navigation training unless he has completed the navigation course
and successfully passed the navigation exam.
26. Solo navigation flights shall only commence after 07:00 local time and may not leave
Wonderboom after 10:00 local time.
27. Students on solo navigation flights shall report to the relevant air traffic services unit overhead
each turning point away from the base.
28. A flight plan shall be submitted with Johannesburg Briefing for each navigation training flight.
29. A meteorological report shall be obtained 1 hour before departure for all navigation flights and
flights more than 20 nautical miles away from the base.
30. All aircraft keys and bags shall be returned to the office after each flight.
31. Students and pilots are to adhere to the relevant SA CAR’s and CAT’s of 2011 as amended.
(This is available in the Aviation Legislation of South Africa DIGMA) at reception for the use of any
student or pilot.
32. No student shall practice full spins on his own.
33. Shoulder harnesses shall be worn by all students and pilots during flight.
34. No student or pilot shall attempt to start an aircraft by hand swinging the propeller.
35. Circuits and landings (12&13) may not be practiced (Dual or Solo) unless the cloud base is at
least 1500” above ground level and the visibility is at least 10 km.
36. PREFLIGHT ACTION – Before beginning a flight, the pilot in command of an aircraft shall
familiarize himself with all available information appropriate to the intended operation. Pre-flight
action for flights away from the vicinity of an airport shall include a careful study of available current
weather reports and forecasts, taking into consideration fuel requirements and an alternative course
of action if the flight cannot be completed as planned.
37. You may not enter Blue Chip Flight School facilities, train or hire & fly while under the
influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any substance with a narcotic effect.
(a) The aircraft will not be operated if the pilot has used intoxicating liquor, within 8 hours,
tranquilizers, or sleep-inducing drugs within 24 hours before the commencement of a flight or if
the pilot suffers any other physical impairment affecting the safety of the aircraft or its
passengers.
(b) Such inability falls within the sole discretion of the Chief Flying Instructor or Safety
Officer of Blue Chip Flight School (Pty) Ltd. Blue Chip may at random choose to conduct Drug
tests to ensure compliance with SACAA Regulations. The test may be done in 2 ways:
1. Controlled cup test

2. Blood test
An Aviation medical practitioner will conduct such a test. If such a test is to be positive the
student may be asked to join a Drug rehabilitation facility as part of the process to continue
training this will be determined by the SACAA. Other outcomes could result in expulsion from
Blue-Chip Flight School.
(c) The use of drugs other than medical conditions is strictly prohibited.
(d) Notification to the SACAA of such a transgression is mandatory and will be decided by
the management of Blue-Chip flight school in conjunction with the Safety Officer.
38. An expression that amounts to the enticement of violence, advocacy of hatred, or an expression
be understood to a clear intention to be hurtful, or degrading that is based on race, ethnicity,
gender, sexual orientation, or religion, will not be tolerated.
39. You may not verbally, physically, or sexually abuse or harass, or use violent behaviour towards
other students, instructors, or other members of staff.
40. If the behaviour of a student, any client, or visitor is found to be non-compliant with these rules,
it may result in you being asked to leave the school and a disciplinary hearing will be launched,
where after your training may be suspended if found to be guilty.
41. Suitable and appropriate clothing must be worn at all times, for example, a pilot shirt, golf shirt,
and long pants with closed footwear (Male and Female). No short open tops, shorts, skirts, or
dresses, no slops or sandals will be allowed while training. Blue Chip Flight School uniform is
available.
42. Should any pilot or student pilot not adhere to any of the local rules of Blue-Chip Flight School
the management reserves the right to take remedial action.
43. Any complaints should be directly reported to management, our right of admission always
remains.
44. It is the responsibility of foreign student to apply for a student visa. The visa must name Blue
Chip Flight School as the training facility, before commencement of training at Blue Chip.
45. Transferring students that are foreign students as required to furnish proof of Visa transfer into
the name of Blue Chip before training may commence at Blue Chip.
46. Use of personal information according to the POPI Act, 4 of 2013:
(a) The student/client by signing this document hereby consents to Blue Chip Flight School to
collect, process, and distribute his/her personal information where Blue Chip Flight School is legally
required to do so.
(b) The student/client will accept his/her personal information being noticeable and processed by
the Blue-Chip staff to contact the student/client and to process administrative duties.
(c) The student/client hereby consent that third parties will be given access to his/her personal
information and gives consent to Blue Chip Flight School sharing his/her personal information
strictly for reporting to relevant aviation authority organizations.
(d) The student/client understands his/her right to privacy and understands the purpose for which
his/her personal information is required and for which it will be used.
(e) All personal information that the student/client provides will be held and stored securely for the
purpose for which it was collected.
(f) The student/client undertakes to immediately advise Blue Chip Flight School of any changes to
his/her personal information, should any of these details change.

CONDITIONS OF PAYMENT
A. a) A training deposit amount of at least R15 000.00 is payable before commencement of training
and R30 000.00 for international students. An acceptance letter for the purpose of applying
for a Study Visa, will only be released after the initial payment. It is the responsibility of the
student to apply for a Study visa naming Blue Chip Flight School as the training facility before
the commencement of any training.
b) Transferring international students will have to supply proof that a request to change the
training facility on their visa to Blue Chip Flight School, has been submitted before the
commencement of training.
B. The First National bank charges will be for the students to account for any cash deposits into
the school bank account. To avoid these costs, it is recommended that payments are done
electronically.
C. It is agreed that the student may not proceed with flight training unless he/she has a credit
balance of at least R3,500.00 in the flight account.
D. A cancellation fee/no-show fee of R250.00 per hour will be charged if notice is not given at least
12 hours prior to bookings.
E. Any account refunds will attract a 10% handling fee, irrespective of the reason for the refund
and the processing of your payment will only take place during or on the allotted 21 working days

F. Any withdrawal from the student’s school account will be subjected to a 5% handling fee and
written permission from the student’s sponsor. The funds will be paid into the sponsor’s account – it
will only be allowed to be paid into the student’s account with written permission from the sponsor.
G. The sponsor or person responsible for the student’s account undertakes that any withdrawals or
payments for rent/transport will not jeopardize the funds required to maintain training.

You / the client will accept that you have signed the enrolment forms and to your personal
information (your cell phone number, name, ID license number, and other personal information)
being noticeable and processed by the BlueChip Staff team to contact the student and to process
administrative duties. Such information may not be used by the staff members outside of Blue-Chip
Flight school unless they have been given written consent from the Client or student.

INDEMNITY

I, _____________________________________________ and my (family, dependants, executors,


heirs, successors, loved ones, and associates) hereby indemnify the flying school (Blue Chip Flight
School Pty Ltd.) including its owners, employees and or partners, officers, managers, and its
instructors (part-time or full time) and aircraft owners and I/we also abandon any action for
damages which we may institute on whatsoever ground as a result of any damages suffered
through death, injury or loss of any nature for the duration of my training and hour accumulation
(hire and fly) after completion of my Private Pilot’s Licence.
Whether such damage is directly or indirectly attributed to the actions and/or negligence of the flying
school, its owners, employees, partners, officers, managers, instructors, and aircraft owners, or for
any other reason whatsoever.
I hereby confirm that I am in a sober state of mind and that I have discussed this indemnity form
and the purpose thereof with my family, dependents, friends, partners, employers, employees,
members, executors, heirs, successors, loved ones and associates.
