A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 11 MATHEMATICS

A. Content standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts , uses and importance of Statistics, data
collection/ gathering and the different forms of data representation, measures of central tendency, measures
of variability and probability.
B. Performance standards:
The learner is able to collect data systematically and compute accurately measures of central tendency
and variability and apply these appropriately in data analysis and interpretation in different fields.
C. Learning competencies:
The learner illustrates: calculates the measures of central tendency of ungrouped data .
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
A. Define the mean, median and mode of unrouped data.
B. Find the mean, median and mode of ungrouped data.
C. Cooperate on group activities and participate actively on class discussion.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Measures of Central Tendency of Ungrouped Data
B. Reference:

C. Materials: Powerpoint presentation, pictures, activity cards and activity sheets
III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preparation
a. Routinary Activities
1. Prayer
Please all stand and let us pray. _____ kindly
lead the prayer. (The students will cite the prayer.)
2. Greetings
Good afternoon class! Good afternoon Ma’am.
How are you today? We are fine Ma’am.
It’s nice to hear.
3. Checking of classroom cleanliness
Before you take your seats, make sure that
your surrounding is clean. Pick up those
pieces of trashes around you, and kindly
arrange your chairs properly. (The students will follow.)
4. Checking of attendance
Class monitor, is there any absentee for None, Ma’am.
today?
5. Recalling of Classroom Rules
Classrroom Rules:
1. Be prepared
2. Be positive
3. Be productive
4. Be respectful
5. Be participative
b. Motivation
Before we proceed to our new lesson, let us
play a game.

“JUMBLED LETTERS”

The class will be divided into two groups and

will be given 2 mins to solve the jumbled
letters. The learners will choose one
representative to write their answer on the
board , the last one who will solve the
jumbled letters will have a consequence.

B. Presentation

Very Good! Our lesson for today is Measures

of Central Tendency of Ungrouped Data.

a. Activity
Let’s have an activity.
“Beth’s Fruit Stand”
What have you noticed? What do I have here?

A fruitstand!

have here set of pictures, the following

pictures shows an updated price list of fruits
per piece/ kilogram at Nanay Beth’s fruit
stand.

For pineapple 25 per piece, mango (green)

120 per kilogram, kiat kiat 100 per pack,
mango (yellow) 150 per kilogram and apple
25 per piece.

Class, using your scratch paper I want you to

list down the prices .

Next, I want you to get the sum.

What is the sum?
After you get the sum, divide the sum by 5 25, 120, 100, 150, 25.
since that is the total number. What is the
quotient?

Very Good! 84 called the mean. 420.

Now, let us examine the set of numbers we 84.

have. What have you observed in this set of
numbers?

Are there other answers?

The lowest number is 25.
Correct! Let us arrange the numbers in
ascending order. The highest number is 150.

Now that the number are arranged properly, They are not arranged properly.
what do you think is the middle number?

In a set of data, there is a middle number. We 25, 25, 100, 120, 150.
call it the median.

Let su examine again the set of numbers we

have. What have you noticed?
25 appeared twice in the set.

Exactly! We can say now that 25 called the

mode.

(students will answer)

b. Analysis

Based from the activity,

What is mean of ungrouped data?

How do we calculate the mean? Mean is the average.

Mean is the sum of all numbers divided by the

What is median of ungrouped data? total number of data.

Median is the middle number of the data.

How do we get the mode?

The mode is the number that appears twice or

more in a set of data.

Any questions?

3. Abstraction
Measures of Central Tendency
-measure of cemtral location
- it is the summary of measure that attempts
to describe the a whole set of data with a
single value that represents the middle or
center of its distribution.
Mean
- Most commonly used measure of
central tendency.
- It is find by adding the values of data
and dividing it by the number of data.
Formula:

Median
- Middle of the sample when the data
are arranged in ascending or
descending order.
Mode
- Most frequent occurring number in the
data.

Did you understand class?

Yes, Ma’am.
4. Application
Let’s have another activity.

Directions: Perform the assigned task. Collect

the data from you groupmates, ask the
following questions and record the data. Do
these in 8 minutes.

Group 1: Collect and write the shoe size of

your groupmates.
1. Arrange in ascending order. (students will do the activity.)
2. Find the mean, median and mode.
Group 2: Collect and write the weight of your
groupmates.
1. Arrange in ascending order.
2. Find the mean, median and mode

Rubrics:
Mathematical content 5 points
Presentation of the output 5 points
Cooperation 5 points
TOTAL: 15 points

Time is up! You may now present your work.

Very good class! It seems that you understand (Students answer may vary.)
our lesson very well. Give yourself a round of
applause!
(The students will present their work.)

IV. ASSESSMENT
Get 1/2 sheet of pad paper. Find the mean,
median and mode of the following.

1. 2, 3,6,2,3,3,10
2. 5, 6, 7,7,9,9,9,10,14, 16, 20 1. Mean = 4.14
3. The scores of 20 students in English Median =3
quiz are follows: Mode= 2 and 3
2. Mean = 10.18
25, 33, 45, 35, 34, 26, 29, 38, 35, 40, 45, Median = 9
32, 47, 28, 25, 39, 38, 29, 37, 45 Mode = 7 and 9
3. Mean =35.25
Median= 52.50
Mode = 25, 45,29,38

V. ASSIGNMENT
A. Arrange the following in ascending
order. Find the measures of central
tendency.
26, 22, 23, 21, 22, 26,24, 20
B. Study the measures of central
tendency of grouped data.

Is there any questions? Clarifications?

None, Ma’am
That is all for today, I hope you learned. Good
bye class! Good Bye, Ma’am!
