The lesson plan for Grade 8 focuses on teaching measures of central tendency, specifically mean, median, and mode, through various activities and examples. Students will learn to compute and interpret these measures using ungrouped data and apply them to real-life situations. The plan includes a variety of teaching resources, activities, and assessments to evaluate student understanding and mastery of the concepts.

DAILY LESSON Teacher LOVELYN R. AGGABAO Learning BASIC
PLAN Area STATISTICS
Teaching April 4, 2023 Quarter III
Dates 10:30- 11:30
and Time

I. OBJECTIVES
1. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of mastery on computing and interpreting
measures of central tendency.
2. Performance Standards The learners should be able to compute and interpret the three measures of central
tendency of ungrouped data.
3. Learning The learners differentiate the three measures of central tendency (mean, median and
Competencies/Objectives mode). (BS8-IIIG-18)
The learners compute and interpret the mean, median and mode of ungrouped data.
(BS8-IIIG-19)

a. Differentiate mean, median and mode

b. Find the mean, median and mode of ungrouped data
c. Show appreciation to the value of mean, median and mode in real life situations
II. CONTENT
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide
2. Learner’s Materials
3. Textbook
4. Additional Materials
from Learning
Resources (LR) portal
B. Other Learning Resources Powerpoint presentation
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or ACTIVITY: GUESS THE GIBBERISH!
presenting the new lesson How to play:
 Read the random words that will appear on the screen.
 Speak aloud until you guess the right word based on the random words.
 Answer before the time runs out.

RANDOM WORDS RIGHT WORD

1. A berry age AVERAGE
2. Me doll MIDDLE
3. Free Cue Went FREQUENT
B. Establishing a purpose for the Activity. Market-Market!
lesson
Price list of fruits per kilo in Auntie Maricon’s store.

50/kilo
20/kilo 50/kilo

1
25/kilo 100/kilo

Task:
1. Arrange the set of prices in ascending order.
2. Find the average price of the data.
3. Encircle the middle price.
4. Underline the price that appears most frequently.
C. Presenting examples/Instances MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY OF UNGROUPED DATA
of the new lesson
Measures of Central Tendency (also referred to as measure of central location) is a
summary measure that attempts to describe a whole set of data with a single value that
represents the middle or center of its distribution.

Ungrouped Data is data given as individual points. Data are given in random.

Activity: AMONG US!

Who is the top performing student among the three? Why?
LISA ROSE JENNIE
Science 90 Science 95 Science 95
Math 92 Math 90 Math 96
Filipino 95 Filipino 96 Filipino 91
English 95 English 95 English 92
Makabayan 93 Makabayan 94 Makabayan 92

Question: What mathematical concept or principle we have to apply to come up with the
correct answer?

Mean (also known as the arithmetic average) is the most commonly used measure of
central tendency. It is simply the sum of all item values divided by the number of items.

To find the mean of ungrouped data, use the formula:

x=
∑x
n
Where ∑ x - sum of all values
n – total number of values
D. Discussing new concepts and Median, represented by Md,is the middle value in a set of data when all the values are
practicing new skills # 1 arranged in order.

In computing for the median, it is important to remember that:

 If there is an odd number of values, the middle value is the median.
 If there is an even number of values, the median is taken as the average of two
values falling in the middle.
Activity: The BMI!

The BMI or Body Mass Index of 15 students in Teacher Mercy’s class is 18.5, 19.4, 23.4,
20.6, 19.3, 18.5, 19.4, 19.3, 20.5, 19.5, 19.3, 22.4, 22.7, 23.1, and 25.2.
a. What is the median?
b. If another BMI of 25.5 is added on the list, what is the median of the data set?
E. Discussing new concepts and Activity: PALADESISYON!
practicing new skills # 2
Auntie Tess is studying her sales records to decide what style of blouse should she reorder
from the supplier.
STYLE NUMBER OF
SOLD ITEMS
A 1
B 5
2
C 3
D 15
E 0
Question: If you were to decide, what style of blouse should you reorder? Why?

Mode is referred to as the most frequently occurring value in a given set of data. It is the
element or measure which is repeated the most number of times.

Types of Mode:
 No mode – A data having equal frequency of observations.
 Unimodal – If the data set has only one value that occurs most often.
 Bimodal – A data set that has two values that occur with the same greatest
frequency.
 Trimodal – A data set that has three values that occur with the same greatest
frequency.
 Multimodal – When a set of data has more than three values that occur with the
same greatest frequency.

Activity: The FLASK!

In a laboratory, nine conical flasks have sodium chloride solutions of different quantities.
The amount of solutions (ml) in each flask is given as: 3, 5, 6, 3, 2, 7, 4, 1, and 8.

a. What is the mode in the data set?

b. If another conical flask is added on the list which has a sodium chloride solution of 6 ml,
what will be the mode?
F. Developing mastery (leads to Activity: READING SKILLS!
Formative Assessment 3)
The reading speed level (in seconds) of a random sample of 5 students in Grade-7 Mango
were recorded as 99, 103, 104, 100 and 104. Find the mean, median and the mode.
G. Finding practical application of Group Activity
concepts and skills in daily living
Group 1
Task: Collect and write the daily allowance of your group mates and compute the mean,
median and mode. Then determine what type of mode is in the data set.

Group 2:
Task: Collect and write the age of your group mates and calculate the mean, median and
mode. Then determine what type of mode is in the data set.

Group 3:
Task: Collect and write the shoe size of your group mates and find the mean, median and
mode. Then determine what type of mode is in the data set.

Group 4:
Task: Collect and write the weight of your group mates and solve the mean, median and
mode. Then determine what type of mode is in the data set.
H. Making generalizations and Ask the following.
abstractions about the lesson
1. Differentiate the three measures of central tendency.
2. How to find the mean?
3. How to find the median?
4. How to determine the mode?
5. What are the types of mode?
6. Do you think that the mean, median, and mode are important to our lives? Why?
I. Evaluating learning QUIZ

Find the mean, median and mode of the following sets of data.
1. The height (in cm) of 6 basketball players in DAHS are as follows:
159 155 153 155 158 156

2. The scores of 20 students in ESP Exam:

19 14 20 19
18 15 20 18

3
17 12 13 17
16 19 15 14
12 19 16 13
J. Additional activities for Enrichment Activity
application or remediation
1. Your class recently took a test on the latest chapter in your book. Your teacher writes the
different scores on the whiteboard so you can see how your score compares to others from
your class. Your score is a 79. How does your score compare to those of your classmates?
Find the mean, median, and mode with the following set of data. Then explain which
measure of central tendency seems to be the most accurate.
82, 66, 70, 59, 90, 78, 76, 95, 99, 84, 88, 76, 82, 81, 91, 64, 79, 76, 85, 90

2. Study about the Mean, Median, and Mode of Grouped Data
