Teacher Kathlene Jane C. Merones Learning Areas Mathematics
Date May 13, 2025 Quarter (PAKIINPUT PO KUNG ANONG
QUARTER)

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts,
uses and importance of statistics, data collection/ gathering
and the different forms of data presentation, measures of
central tendency, measures of variability and probability.
B. Performance Standard The learner is able to collect and organize data systematically
and compute accurate measures of central tendency and
variability and apply these appropriately in data analysis and
interpretation in different fields.

(mean, median, and mode) of statistical data. (M7SP-IVf-1)
D. Specific Objectives At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to;
a. Define mean, median and mode.
b. Find and solve the mean, median and mode.

D. Methodology 4a’s (Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, Application)

Teachers Hint Teachers Activity

A. Preliminaries
1. Greetings Good morning class!
2. Prayer Kindly stand for the opening prayer. Mary grace, kindly lead the
prayer.
3. Securing of cleanliness Before you take your seats, kindly pick- up all the pieces of papers
and plastics within your premises and don’t forget to arrange your
chairs.

4. Checking of attendance Class secretary, kindly list down the names of absentees, if there
are any, and give it to me after the class.

5. Checking of Assignment Last meeting, I gave you an assignment and asked you to read the
next topic as we proceed to our next lesson. Have you read
already?
So, later after the discussion I will collect your assignment as part
of your attendance.
B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
Recall What was our last topic yesterday?

Again, what are the steps in finding the mean of discrete random
variables?

That’s good, it seems like you listened very well in our last
meeting!

Again, first is to construct the probability distribution for the

random variable x. Second, Multiply the value of the random
variable x by the corresponding probability. And last, add the
results obtained in step 2. The result obtained is the mean of the
probability distribution.

C. Introduction
1. Motivation Before we begin our discussion on the next topic, let’s have a
short game that is connected to our topic and still helps to recall
our previous topic.

I have some random words here, and all you have to do is

rearrange them in the way you think is right.
Understand, class?

Let's start!

1. LDDMIE - MIDDLE
2. FQUNTEER - FREQUENT
3. MUS - SUM

Good job!

Based on our game, what do you think is our next topic?

Yes, very good. It’s all about the Measure of Central Tendency of
Ungrouped Data.
2. Presentation of Objectives So, for us to further understand our lesson for today, we are
guided with these objectives.

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to;

a. Define mean, median and mode.
b. Find and solve the mean, median and mode.
c. Apply the importance of the mean, median, and mode
in real life situations.
Thank you!
ACTIVITY Before we proceed let's have a short activity.

The set of data shows the grades of top 7 G11 Aries students in
the midterm exam in Mathematics last quarter.
(88, 90, 93, 93, 93, 94, 94)

1. What grade is typical to the group of students?

2. What grade appears to be in the middle?
3. What grade frequently appears?
ANALYSIS What did you do to find the answer?

1. What grade is typical to the group of students?

Answer: 92.14
2. What grade appears to be in the middle?
Answer: 93
3. What grade frequently appears?
Answer: 93

Based on the activity, you already have an idea for our next topic.
But to further understand our topic. Let's define Measure of
central tendency.

ABSTRACTION Measures of Central Tendency for Ungrouped Data

● Mean

● Median

● Mode

MEAN

● Average of all data.

● Computed by summing all the values of the variable in

the data set divided by the number of observations.

Ex. The building permits issued last month to 12 construction

forms in Quantrix were 2, 6, 0, 6, 10, 3, 0, 14, 2, 4, 7, and 6 to
compute the mean.

2+6+0+ 6+10+3+14 +0+2+ 4+7 +6 60

Answer: x= = =5
12 12

MEDIAN
● The MEDIAN, denoted Md, is the middle value of the
sample when the data are ranked in order according to
size.

Ex. 16 17 18 19 20 21 22
Answer: 𝑀𝑑 = 19

Ex. 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23
Answer: 𝑀𝑑 = 19.

MODE

The MODE, denoted Mo, which occurs most frequently in a set

of measurements or values.

91 92 98 98 98 95 95

APPLICATION To understand more, let's try to answer this one.

James obtained the following grades in his five subjects for the
second grading period.

90, 86, 88, 87, 87

Answer: 𝑥= 87.6, 𝑀𝑑 = 87, 𝑀𝑜 = 87

D. Generalization So, this is the end of our discussion.
Again, what are the three measures of central tendency?

- MEAN
- MEDIAN
- MODE

IV. Evaluation

A group of students scored the following marks in a test: 72, 65, 70, 70, 68, 85, 90. Find the mean,
median, and mode.

Answers: Mean = 520 / 7 = 74.29

Median is the 4th value (since there are 7 values) = 70
Mode = 70

V. Assignment

Answer the following.

1. At a birthday party, the ages of the seven children attending are: 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 8, and 15.
Which measure of central tendency best represents the typical age of the children?
a) Mean
b) Median
c) Mode
d) Range
2. A basketball team has the following shoe sizes: 10, 11, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.
If the coach wants to order the most common shoe size for the team, which measure should be used?
a) Mean
b) Median
c) Mode
d) Standard deviation

3. The monthly salaries (in thousands) of five employees are: 25, 27, 28, 30, 75.
Which measure of central tendency would be most affected by the highest salary?
a) Mean
b) Median
c) Mode
d) None of the above

4. The scores of 10 students in a math test are: 60, 65, 70, 70, 75, 80, 80, 80, 85, 90.
Which measure of central tendency best describes the most frequent score?
a) Mean
b) Median
c) Mode
d) Range

5. A group of friends is choosing a restaurant based on the average rating out of 5 stars. The ratings
are: 2, 3, 4, 4, 5. If one friend wants to suggest the restaurant that most people rated highly, which
measure should they look at?
a) Mean
b) Median
c) Mode
d) Variance

B. Read the next topic, which is about Measures Variability of Ungrouped Data.
