37. The perimeter of rectangle PQST is 54 cm. The length of rectangle
PQST is twice of its breadth. The base of triangle PQR is PQ. Find
the area of the shaded triangle PQR. Use a bar model to help you.

x2 x2 x1 x1

length + length + breadth + breadth = 54cm

Length
54cm
Breadth

6 units = 54
1 unit = 54 ÷ 6
= 9 cm
Breadth = 9cm
Length = 9 x 2
= 18 cm

(9cm + 9cm + 18cm + 18cm = 54cm)

Then: Area of Triangle PQR

=½xbxh
= ½ x 18 x 9
=9x9

Other option for bar model and working out:

Length
54cm
Breadth

3 units = 54 cm
1 unit = 54 ÷ 3
= 18 cm

But there is length x 2 sides and 2 times more (Top and bottom) = 4
Breadth = 2 sides. Answer: __81 cm²___

1 unit = 18 ÷ 2 = 9 cm.
