Course Title : GE 005 (Purposive Communication)

Course Description : This course develops students’ communicative competence and enhances their cultural and
awareness through multimodal tasks that provide them opportunities for communicating eff
appropriately to a multicultural audience in a local or global context. It equips students with too
evaluation of a variety of texts and focuses on the power of language and the impact of images to em
importance of conveying messages responsibly. The knowledge, skills and insights that students g
course may be used in their other academic endeavors, their chosen disciplines, and their future ca

Student/Program Outcomes : This course will help equip the students with knowledge and skills to effectively communicat
both orally and in writing and demonstrate cultural and intercultural awareness and sensitivity in co

Course Assessments: The assessment of the learning gained by individual students will be based on the following:
a. Final project: Multimodal advocacy campaign (print, audio, visual, web-based) addressing current issues (e.g. go
governance, responsible citizenship, disaster preparedness, environmental preservation, poverty reduction etc.)
b. Participation in class discussion, reports, and group works; and
c. Quizzes, midterm, and final examinations.

Grading System: The final grade of each student will be determined as follows:

Classroom Policies:
1. Everyone in class has to observe academic honesty, which is essential in any learning environment. The work you complete for th
must be your own work and must meet basic standards of honesty.
2. As a courtesy, each student has to wear appropriate attire in class (if all students have the capacity to use Google Meet for synch
class). As regards the use of Google Meet, mute microphone when not in use and turn on camera throughout the class session.
3. Class participation, through attendance and discussion, is essential. Therefore, the grade component of class participation will b
general evaluation of students’ participation in terms of class, group, and pair discussions, and other class activities based
covered in the class.
4. Students are required to read the assigned modules, articles, and other resources before the class.
5. Students are expected to seek help from instructor when necessary.
6. Students are encouraged, however, to use a variety of resources in obtaining ideas and illustrations that will help them complete a
independently. Acknowledge sources at all times to avoid plagiarism.
7. Respect begets respect. One-mouth rule policy is applied. If you would like to say something, raise your hand.
