REVISION FOR TERM I

1. The LCM of two numbers is 14 times their HCF. The sum of LCM and HCF is 600. If
one number is 280, then find the other number.
2. Find HCF and LCM of 404 and 96 and verify that HCF × LCM = Product of the two
given numbers.
3. The set of Mathematics, Physics and Physical Education books have to be stacked in such
a way that all the books are stored topic wise. The number of Mathematics, Physics and
Physical Education books are 14, 18 and 22. Determine the number of stacks of each
books provided books are of the same thickness.
4. Find α-1 + β-1, if α and β are zereos of the polynomial 9x2 – 3x – 2.
5. Find the quadratic polynomial whose zeroes are 1 and – 3. Verify the relation between
the coefficients and the zeroes of the polynomial.
6. Solve the following pair of linear equations using elimination method.
x – y + 1 = 0; 4x + 3y – 10 = 0
7. Represent the system of linear equations 3x + y = 5 and 2x + y = 5 graphically. From the
graph, find the points where the lines intersect y-axis.
8. A fraction becomes 1/3 when 1 is subtracted from the numerator and it becomes ¼ when
8 is added to its denominator. Find the fraction.
9. Draw the graph of 2x + y = 6 and 2x – y + 2 = 0. Shade the region bounded by these lines
and x-axis. Find the area of the shaded region.
10. Draw the graphs of the following equations:
2x – y = 1, x + 2y = 13
(i) Find the solution of the equations from the graph.
(ii) Shade the triangular region formed by lines and the y-axis.
11. The product of two consecutive positive integers is 306. Find the integers.
12. The difference of two natural numbers is 5. If the difference of their reciprocals is 1/10,
find the two numbers.
13. The taxi charges in a city comprise of a fixed charges together with charge for the
distance covered. For a journey of 10 km, the charges paid is Rs.75 and for a journey of
15 km, the charges paid is Rs.110. What will a person has to pay for travelling a distance
of 25 km?
14. A sum of Rs.700 is to be used to give seven cash prizes to students of a school for their
overall academic performance. If each prize is Rs. 20 less than its preceding prize, find
the value of each of the prizes.
15. 200 logs are stacked in the following manner 20 logs in the bottom row, 19 in the next
row, 18 in the row next to it and so on (see Figure). In how many rows are the 200 logs
placed and how many logs are in the top row?
16. In a potato race, a bucket is placed at the starting point, which is 5 m from the first potato,
and the other potatoes are placed 3 m apart in a straight line. There are ten potatoes in the
line

A competitor starts from the bucket, picks up the nearest potato, runs back with it, drops
it in the bucket, runs back to pick up the next potato, runs to the bucket to drop it in, and
she continues in the same way until all the potatoes are in the bucket. What is the total
distance the competitor has to run?
17. If the sum of first 7 terms of an AP is 49 and that of 17 terms is 289, find the sum of first
n terms.
18. Which term of the AP: 3, 15, 27, 39, … will be 132 more than its 54th term?
19. Two concentric circles are of radii 5 cm and 3 cm. Find the length of the chord of the
larger circle which touches the smaller circle.
20. Prove that the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.
21. Prove that the length of tangents drawn from the external point to the circle are equal.
22. Two poles of equal heights are standing opposite each other on either side of the road,
which is 80 m wide. From a point between them on the road, the angles of elevation of
the top of the poles are 60° and 30° respectively. Find the height of the poles and the
distance of the point from the poles.
23. From the top of a 7 m high building, the angle of elevation of the top of a cable tower is
60° and the angle of depression of its foot is 45°. Determine the height of the tower.
24. A 1.2 m tall girl spots a balloon moving with the wind in a horizontal line at a height of
88.2 m from the ground. The angle of elevation of the balloon from the eyes of the girl at
any instant is 60°. After sometime, the angle of elevation reduces to 30° (see figure). Find
the distance travelled by the balloon during the interval.
25. If the median of the distribution given below is 28.5, find the values of x and y.
26. life insurance agent found the following data for distribution of ages of 100 policy
holders. Calculate the median age, if policies are given only to persons having age 18
years onwards but less than 60 years.

(5, – 6) and (–1, –4). Also find the point of intersection.
10. Two pillars of equal lengths stand on either side of the road which is 100m wide, exactly
opposite to each other. At a point on the road between the pillars, the angle of elevation
of the tops of the pillars are 600 and 300. Find the length of each pillar and distance of the
point on the road from the pillars.  

the corresponding:
