Code E-32 Engine Heat Soak
Topic:
Diagnostic code E-32 caused by engine heat soak.

Cause / Discussion:
In severe duty applications, the engine may experience heat soak after being
shut off for a few minutes. During heat soak, the engine coolant temperature
may rise above ECM threshold and cause an E-32 code when the ignition is
placed in the ON position.

Service Engineering determined that once the engine is started and the water
pump begins to circulate, the engine coolant temperature will instantly drop
below threshold and maintain in a normal operating range. Therefore, we call
this “false E-32 codes”.

Code E-32 Engine Heat Soak
Solution:
Example of false E-32 code caused by engine heat soak.
Engine cranking period.
ECM detects high engine coolant
temp and triggers a code E-32

Prior to shutting off engine, truck Engine coolant temp

is operated in heavy duty cycles begins to rise
Engine coolant temp stabilizes at 82°C

spin and circulate.
