LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
I. LEARNING CONTENT:
a. Topic: Problem Solving Involving Conditional Probability
b. Pre-requisite Sills: solving probability
c. Reference: Grade 10 Mathematics Teacher’s Guide pages 301 – 304
Grade 10 Mathematics Learners Material pages 346 – 351
d. Instructional Materials: Activity Sheets, Laptop, Chalk, Manila Paper
e. Strategy: 4A’s, Logical and Critical Thinking, Cooperative Learning
Aside from the discuss topic on compound event which can be solve using different probability equation. How can we
solve compound events if it has a condition given.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Pre-activity
Giving of materials and instruction, and rubrics
2. Activity (Discover Me!)(15 minutes)
Materials: needed PowerPoint Presentation, manila paper, permanent marker, masking tape a
Present a worded problem and let the students answer the question
Supposed Mario bought four different batteries. Of these four, one is defective. Two batteries are to be selected at
random
1. Draw a tree diagram associated with the experiment of selecting two batteries from among four, in which one is defective
2. List the sample space
3. Find the probability that the second battery selected is not defective
4. What is the probability that the second battery selected was not defective, given the first battery selected was not defective
4. Abstraction
Guide Question
1. How did you find the probability that the second battery selected was not defective, given the that the first battery
was not defective.
III. DISCUSSION:
The probability that an event will occur given that another event has already occurred is called a conditional probability. The formula
for conditional probability is given by:
P ( A∧B) P ( A ∩B)
P(A/B) = or P(A/B) =
P (B) P( B)
STATION 1 . A proficiency examination for certain technical skills was given to 100 employees of a manufacturing firm. The
breakdown of the examination results of the employees are shown in the table below.
36
Answer: P (F/P) = or 0.60.
60
STATION 2. Consider the table below showing A as the age group under 30 years old who purchases 2 different brands of shoes
b. What is the probability that a person chosen at random purchases Brand X and is under 30 years old? Answer: P ( A ∩ X) =
0.06
c. What is the probability that a person chosen at random purchases Brand X given that he or she is under 30 years old?
P ( X ∩ A)
Answer: P (X/A) =
P( A)
2
Answer: P (second is G/ at least one G) = .
3
There are three outcomes which are (B, G), (G, B), and (G, G). For the probability that the younger child is a girl, we have (B, G) and
(G, G). So, there are 2 out of three possible outcomes.
IV. ASSESSTMENT
Let the students solve the problem below.
1. The probability that Rose will visit the parlor and the doctor today is 0.15. If the probability that she visits the doctor is
0.55, what is the probability that she visits the parlor, given that she has visited the doctor?
Therefore,
P (visits parlor∧doctor )
P ( visits parlor/visits doctor) =
P(visits doctor)
0.15
=
0.55
= 0.27.
Thus, P (visits parlor/visits doctor) = 0.27.
V. REFLECTION
Students will be asked to fill in the reflection sheet which will be Reflection
distributed to them. The What I have learned so far…
reflections sheet will be then ____________________________________
pasted on their notebook. Some will be called to share their reflections. ____________________________________
