8.1B Rectangular Coordinate Plane

Fig. 1 shows a rectangular coordinate plane. The x-axis y-axis x-coordinate of P


and the y-axis intersect at a point called the origin. P(2 , 3)
The position of a point can be represented by an ordered y-coordinate of P
pair (a , b), i.e. the coordinates of that point.

The x-axis and the y-axis divide a rectangular coordinate quadrant II quadrant I
