Automatic Farm Caretaker (AFC) Manual and Functions

The Automatic Farm Caretaker (AFC) for Rice is an eco-friendly, fully

electric machine designed to simplify rice farming by automating essential
tasks like planting, spraying insecticides, hoeing, soil health monitoring, and
self-charging. Equipped with advanced components such as LiDAR, cameras,
and sensors, the AFC navigates fields, plants rice seedlings, and applies
insecticides as needed. It uses hydraulics for soil preparation and planting
precision, while sensors check soil conditions to optimize planting locations.
Powered by a rechargeable battery and solar panel, the AFC can
autonomously return to its charging station when the battery is low, ensuring
minimal downtime. For safe and efficient use, farmers should regularly clean
and inspect key parts like the camera, sensors, sprayer, and storage
compartments. The AFC saves time, improves planting accuracy, and offers a
sustainable alternative to traditional farming methods, making it a valuable
tool for modern rice cultivation.
1.what information do Filipino farmers need to have better rice
production and sales?

Farmers need more information on how ICTs can be used in agriculture as a

platform for improving production and sales. By integrating ICTs into the
agricultural sector, farmers will not only benefit from increased efficiency and
profitability but also gain valuable knowledge and skills in utilizing these
technologies.

2.Why do they need these information?

Filipino farmers need this ICT information to enhance market information

access, improve production techniques through new technologies, and
explore financing opportunities.

3.How they will get them?

To improve the agriculture sector, consider the following specific actions.

Precision Agriculture

Use GPS technology and soil sensors for efficient planting and
irrigation.

Sustainable Practices

Implement cover cropping and integrated pest management to reduce

chemical use.

Access to Finance

Provide microloans and weather-indexed insurance for smallholder

farmers.

Research Collaboration

Partner with universities to develop resilient crop varieties and test

new technologies.

Farmer Training
Offer workshops and online courses on sustainable practices and
digital tools.

Infrastructure

Invest in rural roads and community storage facilities to minimize post-

harvest losses.

Digital Market Access

Create apps for direct farmer-to-consumer sales and support

cooperatives.

Policy Advocacy

Push for subsidies for organic inputs and land tenure security for
farmers.

4. How do they validate them?

In the agriculture sector, validation processes ensure quality and safety.

Regulatory Compliance

Adhering to safety and pesticide regulations.

Quality Assurance Programs

Implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

Certification

Meeting standards for organic and Fair Trade products.

Testing and Analysis

Regular testing for contaminants and nutrient levels.

Traceability Systems

Tracking products through the supply chain.

Third-Party Audits
Independent audits for compliance with standards.

Research and Data Analysis

Utilizing scientific data to validate practices.

5.How do they disseminate those information?

The video itself is the primary method of dissemination. It’s a direct way to
share the information with viewers, the video uses a combination of online
through social media platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram
and offline methods to disseminate the information gathered through
interviews.

6. Are there current ways/technologies to get, validate, and

disseminate those information?

Data collection can validate information through advanced sensors, IoT

devices, satellite imagery, and crowdsourcing platforms enable
comprehensive data collection on topics like environmental monitoring,
economic trends, and health data. For example, in agriculture, satellite
imagery tracks crop health and weather patterns, while IoT devices monitor
soil moisture and temperature.

7. If yes, are they efficient enough? What innovation prototypes can

you design?

8. If no, what innovation/prototypes can you design? What are the

features of this prototype?

Our design prototype focuses more on making the farmers difficult labor
easier. Based on the video mostly filipino farmers aged up to 50 years old or
above and witnessing the decline of our food resources because of a lack of
men’s power since farming is viewed, as looked down upon or not benefiting
to young people. So we are able to create a prototype that could help the
farmers which has the features of automatically planting rice, spraying
insecticide, automatically hoe the land, automatically scanning for soil
health, charging itself, fully electric, and lastly eco-friendly.
