Instructions: Answer all questions

1) The Abacus media company publishes 4 magazines for the teenager between
(between 13 and 17 years of age) market. The executive editor of Abacus would like
to know whether readerhip preferances for the four magazines is independent of
gender A survey amongst 200 teenagers in stationary stores was carried out.
Randomly selected teenagers who bought at least one of the four magazines were
asked the following questions:” Which of the four magazines do you prefer to read”

Test at the 5% level of significance, whether there is an association between gender

2) Independent random samples from a normal population produced the following

3) The diagram below gives the score of 12 students before and after attending a
statistics test

4) A chemical reaction is being investigated. While the chemical reaction reaction is


carried out at atmospheric presuure, the temperature varies from 10 C to 100 C . As a
beginning step in the optimization of this process, the relationship between
conversion of the product and temperature must be obtained. Pilot plant studies have
provided the following data (X: Temperature, Y: Yield)

ii) If the proposed model is Y = β0 + β 1. Use the method of least squares to estimate

5) A study is designed to test whether there is a difference in mean daily calcium intake
in adults with normal bone density, adults with osteopenia (a low bone density which
may lead to osteoporosis) and adults with osteoporosis. Adults 60 years of age with
normal bone density, osteopenia and osteoporosis are selected at random from
hospital records and invited to participate in the study Each participant’s daily
calcium intake is measured based on reported food intake and supplements. The data
are shown in the table below
