a. Radical Republicans:
They wanted to remind people that it was the South/Confederacy that had started the Civil War.

b. Moderate Republicans:
Moderate Republicans felt strongly that if the South was punished too hard, they would rebel, or ght back,
again. Moderate Republicans supported the North helping to rebuild the South

c. Southerners:
The United States government occupied the South, freed the slaves, and dissolved, or got rid of, the
Confederate Government.

d. Freedmen:
Many felt as if they had died and gone to heaven. Finally, they were free! However, Freedmen faced many
questions and uncertainties after slavery was abolished
