1. Perimeter - The perimeter is the length of the boundary of the plane shape.
Perimeter = Sum of the lengths of all sides

Perimeter of a square = 4 × side

Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(l + b)

2. Area - The surface covered by the border line of the figure is the area of the plain
shape.
1
Area of a triangle = 2 (Base × Height)
Area of rectangle = l × b
Area of a square = (side)2
Area of parallelogram = Base × Height
1
Area of trapezium = 2 [Sum of parallel sides] × Height
1
= 2 (a + b) h
1
Area of rhombus =2 (Product of diagonals)
1
=2 × d1 ×d2

3. Circumference of a circle = π.diameter = π d = 2π × Radius = 2πr

Area of a circle = π × (Radius)2 = πr2

4. Surface area or total Surface area of a solid is the sum of the areas of its faces.

i) Total Surface area of a cuboid = 2(l b + b h + h l)

ii) Total Surface area of a cube = 6l2
iii) Total Surface area of a cylinder = 2 π r (r + h)

5. Lateral or Curved Surface Area

If we leave the top and bottom faces of the solid shape then the area of the rest of the figure is
the lateral surface of the shape.

i) Lateral Surface area of a cuboid = 2(b h + h l)

ii) Lateral Surface area of a cube = 4l2
iii) Lateral Surface area of a cylinder = 2 π r h

6. Volume - Volume is the space occupied by any solid figure i.e. the amount of
capacity to carry something is the volume of that solid shape.
Volume of a cuboid = l × b × h
Volume of a cube = l3
Volume of a cylinder = π r2h

7. i) 1 cm3 = 1 ml
ii) 1000 cm3 =1000 ml =1 Litre
iii) 1 m3 = 1000,000 cm3 = 1000 Litre
