3. You are provided with 2 spiral springs, 50g, 100g, 150g and 200g masses, retort stand, stiff wire and a
string.
a. Arrange the apparatus as shown in the diagram below.

b. Measure the length of the spiral spring and record it.

c. Hang a 50g mass on the hook/string and measure the new length of the spiral spring.

d. Work out the extension of the spring.

e. Calculate the extension of the spiral spring.

f. Repeat the above steps using the remaining masses.

g. Copy and complete the table below.

b. Adjust the nichrome wire until the voltmeter reading is 2 volts.


c. Record the ammeter reading in the table below.
d. Calculate the resistance of the nichrome wire using Resistance = Voltage/Current.
e. Repeat the above steps using the remaining voltage values given in the table below.
f. Copy and complete the table shown below
