Flight Deck Announcement

PA Guidelines

This PA section sets out some ‘Public Address’ samples that can be used. These PAs are not the preferred
format, they are simply there to assist those of you that find difficulty giving PA’s or thinking of what to say, in
other words, THE EASY WAY OUT.

FOR ALL THE REST OF YOU…

Giving PA’s is an important communication tool which should be utilized effectively. The following guidelines
should be considered for making a PA, which, it is hoped, will encourage you to think outside the box and help to
connect with the customers:

 You should aim to portray Air Arabia in a friendly, human manner and as such, you are fully encouraged to be
warm, friendly, and down to earth, so explore.

 Humour is a great way to lighten the mood, so don’t be so ridged, and try to make them smile.

 If you feel that you have some interesting local knowledge within the context of the flight or the area that you
are flying over, then share it.

 If you know that the passengers are generally from a certain country and you can speak their language, then
speakada language

NEEDLESS TO SAY,

 Please don’t bore them with long speeches; keep it short and simple.

 Recognize that certain circumstances such as Go-around or Windshear will be harder on the passengers and
crew, so be aware and sensitive about their anxiety, and avoid saying anything that could increase their fears.
It is better to downgrade the severity to the passengers while in the air. Be positive and optimistic.

 Do not say anything that is inappropriate, confidential or that might offend anybody.

 Take into consideration cultural, political, and geographic sensitivities when making PAs as a simple error can
be viewed in a very serious light. Beware that the News Media can be biased at times to national interests
and should not always be referenced as the authority in all issues. So, whereas CNN and BBC may call our
waters the “Persian Gulf” in the Arab sphere of influence it is the “Arabian Gulf”, especially when there are
disputed territories between Iran and the UAE within those waters. Avoid referring to any such disputes, for
example, when flying over Cyprus, we would not refer to the northern part as Turkish Cyprus or even the
southern part as being Greek but simply use the politically correct name of Cyprus.

 Do not blame the Company unless it is obvious to all that the delay is due to Company reasons; in such
circumstances it would be more appropriate to make a sincere apology. To the maximum extent possible, find
a way out (e.g: weather, ATC …etc), and show that you are doing something about it.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT…

We always say: “Please sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight” but are they really enjoying it???

Points to Remember:

 Use a warm and friendly style.


 Prepare yourself before you make a PA.
 Speak slowly and clearly.
 Do not keep clicking PA On/ Off
 Place the handset speaker on your ears and microphone close to your lips.
 Try to be consistent with positive voice projection.
 Do not blow into the microphone.
 Emphasize important words.
 Apologize when you make a mistake.
 Always be aware of the destination, airport name, flight name and number, crew name…etc.,

3. AFTER TAKE OFF (ST)

Ladies and Gentlemen, once again from the Cockpit, your (Capt – F/O) speaking.

4. CRUISE (OD): When the dropdown screens/Airshow is INOP.

For flights exceeding 3 hours and during daytime, the after-takeoff PA shall be used to inform the passengers
about the actual position and the remaining flight time/ ETA.

5. EXPECTED TURBULENCE (OD)

Ladies and Gentlemen,

From the cockpit. As you can observe, the seat belt signs have been switched on due to turbulence. For your
safety, please remain seated with your seat belts fastened.

13. Bomb Threat – On Ground

“Ladies and Gentlemen this is Captain …… speaking. We have received a message that there is a security
concern for this aircraft. In the interest of your safety, we are going to make a thorough search of the aircraft. We
shall not be taking off, but instead, we shall taxi the aircraft and park in a suitable area.

The flight attendants will then supervise your leaving the aircraft and accompany you to a designated location.
Arrangements for your comfort while the aircraft is being searched will be advised after disembarkation”.

Bomb Threat – In Flight

“Ladies and Gentlemen may I have your attention please. This is Captain … … speaking. Each year airlines,
including Air Arabia, receive several telephone calls regarding threats to company property and aircraft.

After investigation these invariably prove to be false, but nevertheless they are all treated seriously. Such a call
has been received today that may be of concern to this flight. We are therefore returning to (or diverting to) ……
airport.

In the meantime, I have instructed the cabin crew to do a search of the cabin to confirm that there is no danger.
During the search crew members will ask you to identify your hand baggage. Please remain calm and stay seated
unless you are asked to move. We kindly ask that you give us your full co-operation and I will speak to you again
as soon as the search is completed. Thank you”.
