Unit 1 Electrostatics

1. Draw the labelled diagram and derive the expression for the equivalent capacitance when the capacitors are
connected in: Parallel and Series.
2. State and prove Gauss’s theorem and use it to derive Coulomb’s invers square law.
3. Derive and expression for the electric field intensity due to an electric dipole at
i. Axial / End on position at a point.
ii. Transvers / equatorial / broad side on position of an electric dipole is zero.
4. Establish the formula for capacity of parallel plate capacitor of partially filled with dielectric.
5. Establish the formula for capacity of parallel plate capacitor.
6. Deduce an expression for the potential at a point due to a point charge.
7. Prove that the potential due to dipole at equatorial position is zero.

Unit 2 Current Electricity


8. Establish a relation between the Drift velocity and current density.
9. If the length of wire is doubled after stretching, then what will be its resistance?
10. How are cells combined in parallel? Derive the expression for current flowing in the external circuit.
When is this combination useful?
11. Explain the principle of Wheatstone bridge with the help of Kirchhoff’s law.

Unit 3 Moving Charges and Magnetism

Unit 4 Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current
