Lecture - 2 Hrs/week, 2 credits ESE- 70 Marks
Practical - 2 Hrs/week, 1 credits ISE - 30 Marks
ICA – 25 Marks

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. To study the fundamentals of IoT.
2. To study the various sensors and actuators.
3. To study the components and communication technology for IoT
4. To study the application of IoT.

COURSE OUTCOMES: At the end of this course, students will be able to


1. To explain the fundamentals of Internet of Things.
2. To use sensors/actuators in the IoT based system
3. To describe different communication protocols in IoT
4. To design IoT based system.

Section-I
Unit 1: Introduction to IoT (05)
Definition, Components of IoT (Things/Device, Gateway, Cloud/Server), characteristics of IoT,
Architecture of IoT, Challenges in IoT.

Unit 2: Sensors and Actuators (08)


Voltage Considerations for Sensors, Sensors: PIR Motion Sensor, Sharp IR Distance Sensor,
LDR Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Ultrasonic Distance Sensor, DHT Sensor, Need of ADC Chip while
using Analog Sensors, Actuators: Servo Motor, Solenoid, Stepper Motor, Need of Relay while
using Actuator
SECTION – II
Unit 3: IoT Communication Protocols (07)
Messaging Protocols: MQTT, CoAP, XMPP, Transport Protocols: Introduction of BLE,
Introduction to Li-Fi, Basics of Sensor Network Topologies: Point to Point Topology, Mesh
topology, Ring topology, Star Topology.

Unit 4: Case Studies (06)


Domain Specific IoTs: Home Automation, Smart Parking, Smart Agriculture

Internal continuous Assessment (ICA):


ICA shall be based on minimum eight experiments from the list mentioned below:
1. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board to blink the LED.
2. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board to turn ON and OFF the 3 LEDs (Red,
Green, Blue) based on the 3 Pushbutton switches.
3. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board to implement automated traffic signal
system using different colour LED.
4. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board to read analog input from a
potentiometer and control the brightness of an LED
5. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board from DHT sensor to measure
temperature and humidity.
6. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board and ultrasonic sensor to measure
distance.
7. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board and PIR sensor to detect
presence/movement and turn on an LED automatically.
8. Develop an IoT based application using Arduino board to control servo motors back and
forth across 180 degrees
9. Develop an IoT based application using an Arduino board to print "Hello IoT" on a 16x2
LCD display.
10. Develop IoT based application using Arduino board and relay to implement smart appliance
control.
