DULOXETINE

Class of Medication
Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors
(SNRIs)

Mechanism of Action
Duloxetine works by inhibiting neurotransmitters, namely Serotonin
and Norepinephrine, thus boosting the levels of dopamine (Labidi,
2021). The increasing dopamine levels create a relief effect, reducing
major depressive disorder and other mental health complications
related to or arising from depression.

 Feeling drowsy

Patients must not crush, chew or open the capsule but should rather
take it as a whole (Supriadhiana, 2022).

Patients may take Duloxetine with or without food.

Patient education

When taking Duloxetine, it often takes four weeks before a patient


can start noticing a change in symptoms. In case a patient
overdoses, they should seek urgent medical attention. The
symptoms of overdosing include dizziness, vomiting, and seizures.
Patients should store the Duloxetine medication at room
temperature and away from heat and moisture (Olivares ,
2020).
