UNIT-2

1. A 4 pole generator has an 800 armature conductors. The flux per pole is 10 mwb
when speed is 600rpm. Calculate the induced emf in armature winding when it is
connected with Lap winding.

2. Explain the construction and working principle of DC Motor with neat sketches.

3. A 120 V DC shunt motor draws a current of 200 A. The armature resistance is 0.02
Ohm, and shunt field resistance of 30 Ohm.
(i). Find the back EMF.
(ii). If the lap-wound armature has 90 slots with 4 conductors per slot, at what speed
will the motor run, when the flux per pole is 0.04 Wb?

4. With a neat sketch, describe the construction and working principle of DC Generator.
5. Describe the EMF equation of a DC Generator.

6. Summarize the various types of DC Motors.

7. Summarize any two application of various types of DC Generators.

8. Describe the construction and working principle of DC shunt motor.

12. A 6600/440V Single phase 600 KVA transformer has 1200 primary turns. Find (i)
Transformation ratio (ii) Secondary turns (iii) Voltage / turn (iv) Secondary current
when it supplies a load of 400 kW at 0.8 p.f. lagging.

is 1 ohm. If the motor is connected to a 200V dc supply and running at 1000 rpm on
no load, calculate: (i) Back emf (ii) Armature current

19. A 4- pole lap wound armature dc motor has flux per pole of 25mWb. The number of
armature conductors is 200. The motor draw in armature current of 20 A when
connected across a 200V dc supply. Calculate the back emf and the speed of motor if
armature resistance is 0.4 ohm

20. A 4 pole lap wound dc motor has 480 conductors. The flux per pole is 24mWb, and
the armature resistance is 1 ohm. If the motor is connected to a 200V dc supply and
running at 1000 rpm on no load, calculate: (i) Back emf (ii) Armature current (iii)
