FINAL TERM PRESENTATION

Task 1.

A. The following final grades are obtained in a class of Grade 8 students:

82, 84, 82, 83, 81, 85, 80, 80, 75, 75, 87, 84, 88, 91, 92, 90, 79, 77, 80, 90, 91,
88

86, 86, 90, 86, 85, 88, 84, 81, 81, 77, 75, 78, 75, 77, 85, 89, 90, 91, 80, 89, 85,
81, 78
Questions:
1. Using a norm-referenced grading with a seven-point scale, determine the
scores that would get a failing mark. What is your general comment on
this?

2. Using a norm-referenced grading with an eight-point grading scale,

determine the scores that would get a failing mark. How is it compared to
the previous grading system used?

B. Compute the grade of a student in:

1. Grade 7 English with the following raw scores

Written work - 72 out of 90

Performance task - 86 out of 110
Score in quarterly test - 67 out of 85

2. Grade 10 student in Mathematics with the following raw scores

Written work - 34 out of 55

Performance task - 40 out of 80
Score in quarterly test - 38 out of 50

To determine the failing marks using norm-referenced grading scales for the provided
grades, we'll analyze the grades step by step.

Step 1: Organize the Grades

First, let's combine and list all the grades:

82, 84, 82, 83, 81, 85, 80, 80, 75, 75, 87, 84, 88, 91, 92, 90,

79, 77, 80, 90, 91, 88,

86, 86, 90, 86, 85, 88, 84, 81, 81, 77, 75, 78, 75, 77, 85,

89, 90, 91, 80, 89, 85, 81, 78

### Step 2: Count the Total Number of Grades

- *Total Grades:* 42

### Step 3: Norm-Referenced Grading with a Seven-Point Scale

A typical seven-point scale might be structured as follows:

- A: 90-100

- B: 80-89

- C: 70-79

- D: 60-69

- F: 0-59

#### Failing Mark Analysis (7-Point Scale)

- *Failing Mark (F):* Scores below 60.

Since all provided scores are above 60, *there are no failing marks* under this grading
system.

#### General Comment on 7-Point Scale

All students passed, indicating that the majority of the class performed well. This suggests a
high level of understanding and mastery of the course material.

### Step 4: Norm-Referenced Grading with an Eight-Point Scale

An eight-point grading scale can be structured as follows:

- A: 90-100

- B: 80-89

- C: 70-79
- D: 60-69

- E: 50-59

- F: 0-49

Failing Mark Analysis (8-Point Scale)

- *Failing Mark (F):* Scores below 50.

Again, since the lowest score is 75, *there are no failing marks* under this grading system
either.

Step 5: Comparison of the Two Grading Systems

In both grading systems, there are no failing marks. The 8-point scale introduces additional
categories (E and F) for lower performance, but since all scores still exceed 75, it does not
change the overall outcome.

Summary of Findings

- *Failing Scores (7-Point Scale):* None (Lowest Score: 75)

- *Failing Scores (8-Point Scale):* None (Lowest Score: 75)

- *General Comments:*

- In both grading systems, all students passed, indicating strong performance across the
class.

- The introduction of more grade categories in the 8-point scale does not affect the
outcome, as no students fell below the passing mark.

B.

To compute the grades for the students, we'll follow these steps:

1. Calculate the percentage for each component.

2. Determine the weighted average if applicable.

3. Present the final grade.

Grade 7 English

*Raw Scores:*

- Written Work: 72 out of 90

- Performance Task: 86 out of 110

- Quarterly Test: 67 out of 85

Step 1: Calculate Percentages

1. *Written Work:*

{Percentage} = 72/90x 100 = 80%

2. *Performance Task:

{Percentage} = 86/110x100 =78.18%

3. *Quarterly Test:*

{Percentage} =67/85x100= 78.82

Step 2: Calculate the Average Grade

Assuming equal weight for each component:

Average= 80 + 78.18 + 78.82/3=79.67%

Grade 10 Mathematics

Raw Scores:*

- Written Work: 34 out of 55

- Performance Task: 40 out of 80

- Quarterly Test: 38 out of 50

Step 1: Calculate Percentages

1. *Written Work:

{Percentage} = 34/55x 100 =61.82%

2. *Performance Task:*

{Percentage} = 40/80x100 = 50%

3. *Quarterly Test:*

{Percentage} = 38/50x100 = 76%

Step 2: Calculate the Average Grade

Assuming equal weight for each component:

{Average} = 61.82 + 50 + 76/3= 62.61%

Summary of Grades

- *Grade 7 English Final Grade:*

79.67%

- *Grade 10 Mathematics Final Grade:*

62.61%

These percentages can then be converted to letter grades based on the grading scale used
by the respective educational institution.

A. 2. The grading system used in the K to 12 is using the front-end equating

approach. Assessment scores are immediately converted to a 100-point scale,
and then composite marks are averaged and weighted (Kubiszyn and Borich,
2010). Below are the percentage scores of Miss Mariz in Araling Panlipunan
for the first grading period. Written works included a concept map, essays,
news writing, news/article review, and a couple of reaction papers.
Performance tasks were comprised of timelines, news reporting, debate and
role play.

Complete the table below. Calculate the total raw score in each component.
Determine the percentage scores (PS). Apply the percentage
weights/weighted scores (WS)and calculate his first quarter grade.

Question:
Suppose Miss Mariz’s grades in the same subject for the second, third,
and fourth quarter are 87, 88, and 90, respectively, compute her final rating
(rounded to the nearest unit), and give its descriptive equivalent.

Answer: Miss Mariz’s final rating is 88%, and its descriptive rating is passed

B. The final numerical and descriptive ratings of Jodi in other learning

areas/subjects are given below. Using the result/s you have obtained above,
determine her final average.

Task 3. You are provided a table showing a sample card of a grade 6 student named
Rico for the third quarter of the school year 2023-2024. Using the discussions
of Lesson 8 as your guide, fill up the empty spaces to get the needed data until
you will be able to compute for his quarterly grade at the last column.
