Water Safety

Introduction

The main danger in and around water is a result of ignorance, inexperience and over-
confidence.

Main activity (Theory)

Ask learners to identify dangers in and around water: -
Drowning can occur in shallow water/tub with water.
Polluted water poses health risks.
It is unsafe to swim alone in isolated areas/unfamiliar places.
Crossing a river where water is moving fast is unsafe.
It is dangerous to play wildly in or near water.
It is dangerous to dive into shallow water if you cannot see the bottom.
It is dangerous to swim or dive with food in your mouth.
Lesson may be demonstrated at a swimming pool (if available). Alternatively assimilate the activity.
