Definition:

 GSD is a technique for methods analysis and the setting of time standards for the
sewn products industries.

 GSD was developed using MTM core data, to provide a consistent, accurate and
easy to understand, easy to communicate, methods analysis and time standards
determination technique. It was designed specifically for the sewn products
industries, and was researched and developed within these industries.

The final system consists of 36 items of data in 7 categories with simple retrieval codes
for ease of application and understanding. Each data has a constant TMU value. There
is also a system of sewing code derivation within the system and sewing formulae to
facilitate the calculation of machine time
Uses of PMTS

1. It is used to find out the required time to perform different jobs.

2. It can also be used to modify and improved the methods.

3. It can also be used to modify and improve the methods before the work starts.
4. To estimate labor costs.

5. It can be used to find the times for short motions, which cannot be measured by
stopwatches.

6. It can also be used for repetitive work.


Advantages of PMTS

The PMTS have flowing advantages.

1. It eliminates inaccuracies with stopwatch time study method.

2. This method is the most suitable method for short cycle and highly repetitive
operations.

3. Without going to the work place, the required timing can be calculated.

4. The rating can be eliminated.


5. It produces consistent measurements as compared to the stop watch time study
data.

6. Less costly when compared to the time study method.


7. By using this method other methods can be compared.
Disadvantages of PMTS

1. Only manual operations can be tacked

2. To measure time in some operation we have to gives the stopwatch.

Different forms of PMTS

Method-Time-Measurement (M-T-M) and the work Factory systems are the two main
forms of PMTS. Let us first consider the M-T-M system.

M-T-M system

Method-Time-Measurement Association developed this system. That is why it is called


M-T-M system. It got the recognition in 1948. M-T-M system analyses an industrial job
basic movements. From the tables of these basic motions, depending on the kind of
motion, and conditions under which the motion is made predetermined time values are
allocated to each motion. By adding the allocated time, normal time required for
completing a job/operation can be found out. Finally the standard time can be obtained
by adding suitable allowances. M-T-M measures time in terms of TMUS (Time
measurement units) and 1 TMU = .0006 minutes.
