How to run purifier with bad fuel

Difference between purifier and clarifier? When using together? How to change purifier to clarifier?
Instruction book မှာ ပါလား မေးတယ်

purifier control, PLC & sequential control

after changing oils what setting u need to adjust in purifier

For high density fuel oil, what type of purifier use?

- ALFA LAVAL ALCAP clarifier is used for this type of oil.

- Mitsubishi Self-jector (G-Hidens series)

Partial discharge system in purifier

Partial discharge is carried out every 20 minutes

 No need to close feed valve.

 No need for displacement water.
 H.P. bowl opening water supplied for 0.6 sec.

 Bowl opened
 Then bowl closed again by bowl closing water.

 Partial discharge prevents hard sludge formation inside the bowl.

 Thus, it lengthens the manual discs cleaning interval.

Why purifier is fitted in ship?

- To transfer oil from settling tank to service tank

- To separate water, sludge particles & other contaminants from the oil.

Difference between purifier and clarifier

Purifier Clarifier
Separate water and solid substances Separate only solid particles
Two outlets, water and clean oil Only clean oil outlet

Sealing water is required Sealing water is not required

Top disk with neck Disk without neck

Lower disc has holes Lower disc has no holes

When using purifier and clarifier together?

-to separate high catfines content fuel oil, purifier and clarifier are operating in series.

How to change purifier to clarifier?

1) Place the blind disc at the bottom of the disc stack.

2) Block the water outlet by a seal on the gravity disc.
3) Shut the sealing water inlet line.

How to run purifier with bad fuel?

-Parallel running of purifiers.

-Keep feed rate just to cover daily consumption (minimum throughput)

-Keep F.O inlet temp at 98°C

-Reduce sludge discharge interval

Purifier Control
- Depend on maker, PLC control for starting, bowl closing, bowl opening, sludge discharge cycle
and alarm monitoring system.

After changing new FO, what settings you need to adjust in purifier?
-According to New bunker Lab results and BDN,

-Take density and separation temperature as recommended by lab, choose correct gravity disc
size from nomogram.

-Reduce sludge discharge interval If necessary (in case of bad fuel)

Water Washing
- Remove acids, salts and other impurities from oil.
- Oil must be straight mineral oils (or Without dispersant additive oils)
- Water is injected before purifier between 3~5% of oil flow
- Water continuously renews the water seal in purifier bowl.
- Oil temperature should be around 75°C and water temperature 5°C higher than oil.

Steam Jetting
Steam Jetting Process:

 Introduction of Steam: Steam is injected or blown into the engine lube oil. The steam interacts
with the oil, particularly targeting the carbon particles and other contaminants that have
accumulated in the oil over time.

 Coagulation of Colloidal Carbon: The heat and moisture from the steam cause colloidal carbon
particles (very fine carbon particles suspended in the oil) to coagulate, or clump together.
These larger clumps are easier to remove than individual small particles.

 Enhanced Purification: Once the carbon particles are coagulated, they can be more effectively
removed from the oil through purification processes, such as centrifugation or filtration. This
helps in maintaining the cleanliness of the lube oil, extending its life, and improving engine
performance.
