Assignment 2 MATH1341

The document is an assignment for a mathematics course focusing on solving various types of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), including homogeneous and non-homogeneous linear ODEs, Euler-Cauchy equations, and applications in modeling forced oscillations and electric circuits. It includes multiple problems requiring students to find general solutions, solve initial value problems, and apply methods such as variation of parameters. Additionally, it addresses concepts related to RLC circuits and damping conditions.

11. Find the current I(t) in an RLC-circuit with R = 11Ω (ohms), L = 0.1H (henry),
C = 10−2 F (farad), which is connected to a source of EMF E(t) = 110 sin(60 · 2πt) =
110 sin 377t (hence 60Hz = 60 cycles/sec, the usual in the U.S. and Canada; in
Europe it would be 220V and 50Hz). Assume that current and capacitor charge are
0 when t = 0. .

12. What are the conditions for an RLC-circuit to be (I) overdamped, (II) critical
damped, (III) under damped? √ What is the critical resistance Rcrit (the analog
