Directions: Obtain a copy of your SameGoal English Learner Plan and attach it to
this page. You can obtain this from the EL teacher or your homeroom teacher.
Journey to America Paper

Directions: Write a two page paper including all of the following topics. The paper
needs to be a minimum of two pages, double spaced with 12 pt. Font.

1} Write about how simple or difficult it was when you left your home country on your way to the
United States.

2} Write about how other people in the USA have helped you to settle in the new place. (First
impressions, first day/month feeling)

3} Explain how volunteers showed and explained about different important places like grocery
stores, hospitals, our family doctor office, places to get vaccinations, and help with food. (your
thoughts about these places, taste or look of the food, roads, electronic, money currency)

4} Describe how you have made friends and family in the community. (school, church,
neighbors, extended family)

5} Explain the difference in the USA schools. (classroom set up/use, amount of students,
homework, consequences for behavior)

6} If you could change one thing about America, what would it be? Provide examples and
reasoning.
