I AM READING A BOOK.

Time: 45 minutes

Materials:

● Lecture slide: KE45 - B1 - LC10 (1) - I am reading a book


● There are 2 videos for this lesson:

● Toys and crafts: Puppet, rewarding system (Kani image, carrot images etc. or flexible)
● Flashcards
● Whiteboard and pen.

General notes:

● Speed: For this level, speed is really important. Speed will be decided based on
student age, the younger the slower. Speed will also depend on the students’
characteristics.
● TPR: Using TPR is really important to motivate the student and using puppets,
flashcards as required will help to motivate the student.
● Pronunciation: For ESL student, correcting pronunciation is really important and
teachers should correct during the class.
● The teacher should appraise the student or correct positively frequently.
● If the student cannot answer, the teacher can mouth then say out loud to help.
● If the student cannot concentrate, the teacher can use TPR.

!!! Please make sure that the student tool mode is off during class. It should be granted
for students above 8 years old only when solving a quiz. For writing activities, please
ask the student to write on a sheet of paper or a board.

Evaluate the student performance after class (for teachers): Please spare five minutes to
fill in the performance evaluation for the student via Kynaforkids Teacher’s App. This is
compulsory in order to finish the class. Please be noticed that the form should be filled in for
each class within 24 hours.

TEACHING TECHNIQUES & TPR:

Teacher introduces himself or herself; ask for student's name


- Teacher introduces his/her name
- Teacher asks "What is your name?" and helps the student to reply.
- Teacher exposes the student to "How are you?" - "I'm fine!"

phrase.

Teacher circles the pictures one by one and asks student: "What is he/is she/ are they doing?".

conversation together. " Ok, now I will play a recording, you will listen and fill in the blanks. For
example, number 1", teacher moves the mouse to blank No.1 and read" Let's do m____." you
will hear < Let's do Maths.>" Then teacher write the word< Maths> on the white board and
show it to the student. Add text and type the word <Maths> in the blank."

Teacher plays the audio. Ask student to listen. Pause right after the information and ask
student to write the answer on the white board. In case the student can not answer. Teacher
moves the mouse to the given words in the box and ask " What word start with___? Signal the
student to answer.

Teacher circles letter I, and asks "What letter is it ?" Student is expected to answer: I. Teacher
says: "Letter I makes.........sound." ( signal the student to answer. Teacher asks the student to
repeat: Letter I makes /i/ sound. I-T makes /it/ sound. Teacher pronounce the phomes/It/ for
the student to repeat.

Teacher points to "i', "t" and says: /i/.../t/.... Together they make / It / "

" Now it's your turn, student name", says teacher. Teacher points to each letter and puts hand
on ear to signal students to say the sound. Teacher can mouth to help. Teacher circles the
picture of it and says the word again. Then teacher puts hand on ear to signal students to
repeat.

Teacher says: Next, we'll do one more game about phonics. Can you see 4 pictures ? (point to
them). Look at those pictures and tell me which one has /It/ sound

Teacher uses Kani puppet. teacher circles picture 1 and asks Kani: What is this , Kani ? Then
teacher acts on Kani's voice to answer: Hit . Teacher says: "Yes. This is hit , /h/.../it/..../hit/. So
does hit have /it/ sound ?Kani says : YES. Then teacher puts a tick next to picture 1.
"Now, let's find other pictures which have /It/ sound, too". Teacher does in the same way as
above. Put a tick next to pictures with /It/ sound at the end. Put a cross next to pictures without
/It/ sound
