UNIT 24: WHAT’S THE CLASS DOING?

I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Use new words related to the topic
- Ask and answer about who’s doing something
II. Language Focus
1. Vocabulary: New words related to the topic
2. The structure: - What is/are + S doing?
- S + am/is/are + V-ing
III. PROCEDURES

The structure
What is/are + S doing?
S + am/is/are + V-ing
- Give the S the usage of the structure: This
structure is used to ask and answer who’s doing
something
- Read aloud the structure and give the meanings
in Vietnamese
- Ask the S to take note the structure on the
notebook
- Give example
- Give the S take note:
+ eat + ing = eating (most verbs – just add ‘ing’)
+ sit + t + ing = sitting (some verbs – double the
last letter, then add ‘ing’)
+ write + ing = writing (some verbs – take away
the ‘e’, then add ‘ing’)
+ Verbs where the final consonant doubled before
adding ‘-ing’ only have one syllable and one
vowel + one consonant at the end (the 1–1–1
rule), (‘w’ and ‘y’ are not classed as consonants
for this rule.
- Give example
- Ask the S to take note on their notebook
While- Task 1. Listen and answer - Do the exercises

whether the sentence is talking about picture 1 or
picture 2. For example, the sentence 1 is talking
about the picture 1, write 1 next to the sentence
- Check the answer and give feedback
Task 3. Listen to the questions and write one-
word answers about picture 2.
- Review the structure to ask and answer about
who’s doing something for the S
- Ask the S to pay attention to picture 2
- Ask the S to read the questions and give the
meanings
- Play the tape for the S
- Ask the S to write one word answer for the
questions
- Check the answer and give feedback
Task 4. Put the words in the cupboard.
- Ask the S to read all words in the box and give
the meanings
- Review the rule when we add -ing in a verb
- Ask the S to look at these verbs and identify
whether which word need doubling the last letter,
and which word need taking away “e”
- Ask the S to put the words in the right position
in the cupboard
- Check the answer and give feedback
Task 5. What are you doing? I’m doing a
crossword.
- Ask the S to look those pictures and tell the T
what they are
- Ask the S to write the words presenting for those
pictures in crosswords next to the pictures
- Check the answer and give feedback
Task 6. What are the children doing now?
- Ask the S to look at the picture and answer some
questions:
+ How many children are there in the picture?
+ How many girls/boys are there?
- Ask the S to answer the question “What are the
children doing now?
- Check the answer and give feedback
Post- Play the game: Action mimes - Listen to the T and - Help the S to remember the
teaching - Give the S some verbs play the game new words deeply
- Ask the S to answer “OK” if the verbs just need
adding -ing, answer “DOUBLE” if the verbs need
double the last letter before adding -ing, answer
“GOODBYE E” if the verbs need taking away “e”
before adding -ing
Wrap up - Summary the lesson - Listen to the T - Let the student remember
what they learnt and practice
- Homework - Do homework at at home
