1. Read the text given below:
1. Held every year on 21 May, UNESCO leads the celebration of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and
Development highlighting not only the richness of the world's cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural
dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development.
2. A recent international emergency has proved the intrinsic value of the cultural and creative sector at generating social
cohesion, educational resource or personal well-being in times of crisis. It has also underscored the sector's potential
to generate economic growth, something which is too often underestimated.
3. With the adoption in September 2015 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nations, and
the resolution on Culture and Sustainable Development adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2015, the
message of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is more important than ever. The 17
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can best be achieved by drawing upon the creative potential of the world's
diverse cultures and engaging in continuous dialogue to ensure that all members of society benefit from sustainable
development.
4. Bridging the gap between cultures is urgent and necessary for peace, stability and development. Cultural diversity is
a driving force of development, not only with respect to economic growth, but also as a means of leading a more
fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual life. This is captured in the culture conventions, which provide a
solid basis for the promotion of cultural diversity. Cultural diversity is thus an asset that is indispensable for poverty
reduction and the achievement of sustainable development.
5. At the same time, acceptance and recognition of cultural diversity in particular through innovative use of media and
Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) are conducive to dialogue among civilizations and cultures,
respect and mutual understanding.
6. In 2001, UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. Next, in December 2002, the UN
General Assembly, in its resolution 57/249, declared May 21 to be the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue
and Development, and in 2015, the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the
resolution on Culture and Sustainable Development, affirming culture's contribution to the three dimensions of
sustainable development, acknowledging further the natural and cultural diversity of the world, and recognizing that
cultures and civilizations can contribute to, and are crucial enablers of, sustainable development.

thus making it to be called as "King of Fruits". Major mango-growing states in India include Andhra Pradesh, Uttar
Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are the leading states in
mango production.
2. Mango is grown in an area of 5.58 million hectares of area in the world. India is the largest producer of mangoes with
46.02 and 45.88 percent of the total world area and production, respectively. However, India being the major
shareholder in terms of mango production, exports only 0.52% of its total production indicating the huge gap in
exporting of mangoes. Peru exports about 46%, Thailand 24%, Mexico 18% and Brazil 11% of their total mango
production. These countries are the bigger challenges for Indian mango exports. Hence, efforts are needed to evolve
cheap transportation mechanism, increase the trade agreements with major importing countries and enhance the
productivity.
3. The top importing country is United States of America, however, India exports only two percent of its total exports to
the USA. The USA, European countries, the UK, Malaysia and Russia can be the other hotspots where India can
target to export the mangoes. The critical issue for exporting to the USA is transportation cost (due to sea route
distance) and limited shelf life of mango, while for Europe transportation costs as well as competition by African
countries are the major hurdles.
The following chart shows the major export destinations of Indian mangoes in 2019-20:

Subject: Plastic Ban
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my wholehearted support for the government's ban on single-use plastic. Plastic pollution has
become a major environmental concern, harming our wildlife and ecosystems. This decisive step is a welcome move
towards a cleaner and healthier future.
Single-use plastics are a menace. They clog landfills, pollute our water bodies, and endanger animals. Implementing this
ban sincerely at all levels, from manufacturers to consumers, can create a significant positive impact. We, as responsible
citizens, must also do our part by carrying reusable bags and refusing unnecessary plastic items.
I believe this ban, coupled with public awareness campaigns, can be a turning point. Together, let's embrace a more
sustainable lifestyle and protect our environment for generations to come.

5. A survey conducted in the national capital in over twenty schools highlights the interests of children (13-15 years age
group) in different activities. The data indicate that music was the most loved activity with 60% of children showing
their inclination towards it. Cricket was the second most-liked activity with 40% of students having voted for it.
Theatre is also a significant field of interest among the students as it garnered 35% of their votes. The percentage of
respondents who were in favour of art and dance was around 25% each. This clearly shows the variety and preference of
interests among young children are unique in their own way. The best part that can be discerned from this poll is that the
children still prefer real actual activities where both their physical and mental involvement is a must. This is better than
the digital ones which make them more sessile as they get stuck to the screens.

The reintroduction of cheetahs in India has stirred excitement among the populace, marking a significant milestone in the
country's endeavours to conserve threatened species and rejuvenate ecosystem functions. India's biodiversity has faced
threats leading to the endangerment of various species, including hunting, poaching, and illegal trade, which have driven
them towards extinction. Furthermore, habitat loss due to deforestation, the adverse impacts of climate change, and the
escalating human population have compounded these challenges. In response, comprehensive strategies are being
implemented, encompassing vital measures such as mapping water bodies, preserving suitable habitats, and enforcing
strict government support through stringent wildlife protection laws. These initiatives represent a hopeful stride towards
securing India's diverse wildlife heritage and sustaining the delicate balance of its ecosystems.

1. Hello,
My dear young friends,
It's an honour to stand amongst you and say a few words on how Science has changed the life of a man. Don't you
think so what am saying is true; I sincerely feel that study of science has brought a revolution in the world in terms of
progress and growth. There has been research after research carried on by scientists which has brought the world
closer as a one single unit. Scientific development in one corner of world is affecting every person's life in some way
or the other. All comforts that we enjoy in life be it Computers, T.V., Fridge, Mobiles or Airplanes are all the
products of scientist's efforts and labour. I very earnestly feel that every child in his school time should pick up the
study of science which prepares him to face the world with much more confidence. Being a science student myself, I
feel highly blessed to take up the study of science which has developed me into a sound individual.
Thanks!
Have a great day!

2. For some people, deception is a way to lead life easily, i.e., by changing name, by making excuses, by making new
way of making money etc. Anil was the most trusting person. Hari Singh had ever met. But he took undue advantage
of his trust. He was a thief and couldn't be expected to be honest with Anil. He came to Anil with a false identity.
Anil had a blind faith in human nature. He employed him just out of sympathy and compassion for him. He trusted
him and ignored his misdeed. He handed over all the financial transactions without any verification. In a way, he
gave him a chance to improve. Hari stole money and then came back with a change of mind. Anil knew even this fact
also, but said nothing. It made Hari Singh to decide to leave the style of deception as a way of life. Living a simple
and straight life over-powered Hari's deceptive life. Finally, he opted for the simple life by educating himself and
becoming a clever, big and respectable man in future. It was very good decision of Hari Singh.
